DS Stinks!

He has BO all the time. Even after he has gotten out the shower. I encourage him to wear clean clothes and wash morning and night but he just stinks!

Has anyone else had this and is there anything else I can do.

Is he washing properly? It sounds like he isn’t if he stinks straight after a shower.
Try a bar of soap instead of gel. It can make a difference.
Is he using a deodorant?

BO is caused by bacteria, so does he use an anti-bacterial soap? If the answer is no, then I'd buy him one. Does he always have clean clothes? Do you wash them at 60 degrees or higher to kill the bacteria? Unfortunately, 40 degrees is good for the environment, but not good at killing bacteria. Does he used a proper, medicated deoderant, like Mitcham? If not, switch him over to that immediately.

Many teen boys seem to go through a phase of smelling, if the anecdotes of my friends are anything to go by. I'm assuming it's a surge in hormones which is not matched by a corresponding surge in washing and changing their clothes - particularly shirts, pants, socks - more often.

Yes he uses anti-perspirant will try anti-bac soap. He also has really bad acne and wonder if somehow the two are related.

Switch to bar of soap if using shower gel. Wash pits twice. Trust me shower gel does not work at getting rid of the bacteria or deodorant residue off (especially if they are stick ones)

I would encourage to wash armpits morning and night.

LoniceraJaponica · 03/02/2018 11:58

Oh, and Triple Dry is a very effective antiperspirant.
He needs antiperspirant not deodorant.

LoniceraJaponica · 03/02/2018 11:58

And, yes to bar soap - far more effective than shower gel.

Hello but embarrassing but I had this problem once I hit puberty it's very common and called hyperhydrosis (sp?) I found the best way to manage it is shower everyday and use a anti bacterial antiperspirant called diclor you can get it from boots very good and stops any smell all day

pinkginanyone · 03/02/2018 12:02

I would bet he’s not washing properly. My DD was stinking all the time, it got so bad that I told her i would wash her pits for her if she came out of the shower stinky again.... needless to say she started being less stinky after that. She’s still a bit smelly so has to be reminded to get a shower on a daily basis.

Testosterone is the cause of the spots and the BO. Try something with teatree oil in. It’s a natural antibacterial. Original source do a shower gel with tea tree and mint. I use it on my feet. Could he wear an aftershave to mask it too?

happy2bhomely · 03/02/2018 12:24

Get him to wash using a bar of soap and then use 'Trust' available at Boots.

It works like nothing else I have ever used. It is magic.
