Do you really dislike any of your teen/ tween's friends?

I feel a bit bad, but I have taken a severe dislike to one of DD's friends. DD is just going on 12. I find the friend rude and obnoxious and everything she says irritates me. I dread her coming round to the house.

It started when said friend ignored me completely the first time she came round (she is NOT shy...), did not say thank you when I gave her a lift home and did not thank me for having her at our house for the whole day. I would be MORTIFIED if DD did this. (Thankfully, parents almost always comment on how polite DD has been in their house.) Last straw was when DD and friend were talking in the back of the car and friend says, "Oh GAHD, you're not LIKE, CHRISTIAN are you?" I'm not very religious, don't get me wrong, but I was appalled. Would she have said to a girl in a headscarf, "You're not, like, MUSLIM, are you?" FFS...

If this child was an adult friend of DH's I would probably tell him that I wasn't having her in the house... Surely a 12 year old should know better than this???

Maybe I should have put this in the AIBU threads... I don't know. Does anyone else feel this way? I'm finding it hard to be civil to this child now, but am obviously having to be as otherwise I'd be as bad as her.

she sounds horrible, a right little c**. It's tough balancing her guest status with your parent status, but in this case I think she's blown it. If you don't say anything to her, she'll think it's ok to talk like this and worse still so might your dd. talk to dd first, but if dd still wants to see this girl then maybe warn her that you won't hold back if she says something you disapprove of.

You need to nip this in the bud - you have all those teenage years to come, don't let it start too soon!

Your DD will realise how little in common she has with this particular girl eventually. You just need to hang on till that happens.

My DD had a friend like this. She stole wine from me. I told her father when he came to pick her up. I made it clear to DD that, whilst she could be friends with her, I didn't want her to come and stay over with us. DD dumped her as a friend after 6 months anyway.
