Daughter's first period

Hi. My 13 year old had cramps and spotting last month but no bleed, the same thing happened a month later. It's hard to find info online and I'm wondering if people have experience of this type of start to periods.

I haven't made much of it with her but I might get her iron checked - she doesn't have an iron-rich diet I would think (fussy eater, doesn't like red meat), but she doesn't show signs of anaemia.

Any insight is appreciated!

Thanks

Likely all normal . However if this pattern persists and you/she are concerned see your GP .

I think spotting is classed as a period in the first year or two as is missing periods, very short or long periods and she is quite young still.

I remember mine began similar to this. Awful cramps but hardly any blood. It took a few months to have a proper period and a regular cycle.

If it continues for over a year I'd maybe check with your GP but even then it could be completely fine. Very normal to start with irregular periods but usually will become a consistent cycle within 18 months/2 years.

My daughter has had a heavy period every month since her first. Everyone else she knows had a few light periods over about a year and then settled into a monthly pattern. I wouldn't stress about it. Give it a year or so.
