Periods and tampons

Hi

Really just after others experiences / advice.

My 12 year olds periods started a year ago and she has been using Lilets teens towels - all fine no problem. Her cycle is still a bit irregular at moment.

We are on holiday (beach) and her period has started- she's distraught saying her holiday is ruined.

I've suggested tampons and she seems to think this is a good idea - we've talked about toxic shock etc.

I have some Lilets regulars with me but am going to see if I can get some mini / teens tampons.

Just really wondered if anyone had any top tips for teens starting out with tampons etc.

Thank you

Aw I feel for her. When I was 14 this happened to me, but I had already used tampons before I went on the holiday.

I don't know if you can get Tampax outside of the UK, but the ones with the smooth, plastic applicators are great for those just starting out. If you can't get those, just any kind with a (preferably plastic) applicator might be easier for her?

Thank you - she's feeling a bit chirpier - I've got some mini non applicator tampons to try (I've never got on with applicator ones but will search some out to try). The weather today is stormy so will have a gentle day at the villa (had very busy few days) and encourage her to try them later.

I've always liked Tampax pearl with the plastic applicator. Even now (24) they are the only ones I use.
I'd suggest those if you can. Tampax pearl lites they are called.

Obviously don't want to force her into doing anything she doesn't want to do but just want her to realise her holiday isn't ruined Sad

There are YouTube videos that she can watch on how the insert them. My daughter who is 14 watched these and it helped. She found the non applicators easier. She just uses them if she wants to swim as she finds the sensation odd still.

My dd used the mini ones with applicators first. She was just 12 and wanted me to show her so I helped her.A grit your teeth and smile situation but that was what she wanted.Any older and she wouldn't have asked. She just used them for swimming.
If she's motivated she'll be fine.
I think the applicator ones are easier at first as they are smooth and so easier to insert if you are just starting.
