DD13 and sudden brown spots on face

Has this happened to any of your teens?. They aren't raised spots . They appeared overnight. She has been stressed from exams and has just started her periods so I have no idea if that's what's causing it.
Any help appreciated as it's making her really self conscious.

Just noticed that she's not happy about them, so my theory about mock-freckles goes out of the window! (When I was her age, many years ago, it was the done thing to dip the end of a cocktail stick in self-tanning lotion and apply dots of it to the bridge of our noses and cheeks to create an adorable, trendy, look.)

Could it be melasma? Is she taking the pill as that can sometimes be a trigger for it?

Nope not on the pill. We are scottish so pale of skin but thanks! The spots are isolated.

Could be a fungal infection. I always speak to the pharmacist first and they'll advise whether to see a doctor or not.
