School 6th form vs 6th form college

What are pros/cons of both? DD may not stay on in her current school sixth form so wondering if there were major pros/cons to a separate 6th form college as there's a good one near us. Think we may have to register interest next term.

I personally think college usually gives more independence and a good stepping stone towards uni/work. It is often more informal and less school like. My DDS did really well there.

Pros to sixth form college: fresh start, more like uni less like school, usually wider choice of subjects, usually more of an emphasis on employability not just preparing for uni.
Pros to school sixth form: familiarity with students and teachers, usually a more academic emphasis.

I'm a uni student who went to both a school sixth form and a college sixth form. I got awful results for my first year of AS levels at a school sixth form so ended up retaking at a college sixth form where I did much better. I agree with what PinkCrystal said! Also, in my experience the teachers at college sixth forms tend to be better at teaching A levels than school sixth forms (probably because school teachers have GCSEs to focus on too)
I was much happier in sixth form college, as there wasn't any school cliqueness/popularity issues
Although it depends on the type of college. Some colleges do A levels but specialise in btec or vocational subjects, whereas the sixth form college I went to mainly focused on A levels but offered btec too
Oh and one more thing - 10 students from my sixth form college year managed to get to oxbridge, plus many got into RG unis :)

Thanks. There's no guarantee she'd get in as it's very oversubscribed, but I think she could do with a fresh start, plus her school has some issues which may or may not have an impact on whether she stays and that's convincing me to look around . She has been quite keen to leave after gcse so will see how the land lies. Will need to apply first term of year 11. At least you can apply to multiple schools and can choose from your offers rather than having to rank choices and getting one offer!
