WEED - Teenage daughter

I'm looking for some advice.

Three times over the last month I've walked into my 14 year old daughters room and smelt weed. She doesn't smell of it and her breath is fine (not even like she's done her teeth), her clothes don't smell and her hair smells fine too. We know it's weed though as it's such a distinctive smell and it's clear enough to detect. I've searched her room for it and haven't found anything.

What could it be? I am sure it didn't smell an hour earlier when I was hanging washing up.

Any help would be great.

Hmmm you'd think if she was smoking it then you would definitely smell it on her clothes and hair. Very strange.
Have you asked her outright? (Not that I'd expect she'd come out and admit having some but just to let her know you can smell it?)

I'm not sure weed is all that distinctive any more, actually. I was around it a lot 15-20 years ago and the rare times I get a whiff these days it's either much fruitier or much murkier.

I have noticed that some bottom price deodorants (e.g. Superdrug version of Impulse) smell a bit like 1990s resin when the can is getting empty, too.

If it's "in the air" but not "on her" then does her bedroom window overlook anywhere that people might be smoking?

Is it a distant smell or close up and pungent?
Worse if the door has been shut?

It could be her clothes, but all together, not enough for you to smell it on each item, maybe a jacket?

She doesn't smoke and to be honest has always been anti smoking but I know she's tried a vape stick in the past.
I've asked her outright and got the answer I expected followed by outrage for being accused.
She has told me people smoke it in there group.
I'm in no doubt it's 100% weed I can smell.
It's always her room and like all teenagers door is shut most of the time.
Very strange but she's a sneaky one and I'm afraid probably smarter than me!

Hmm I'd definitely keep checking it out if the smell keeps coming back. Not too sure how it's so strong in her room if it's just from friends smoking it but you never know. Also have a sneaky look in all the places you hadn't checked before if you smell it again.

On this occasion I'd go with the most obvious explanation. It is very common though 14 is you know, enthusiastic.... My DD 16 has always been very open about the drug use amongst her peers and has smoked weed a few times but isn't that interested and disapproves of friends who are excessive users. She knows I wouldn't lock her up for it, that I think I'd be naive to assume she'd never smoke it or drink for that matter, but recognises I'm a fan of moderation and safety.

The real question is how you'd react if you proved she was smoking it and what attitude you will have to it in the future. Presumably your DD is being sneaky because she assumes she knows your response. Do you?

I smoked weed fairly regularly as a student and I def didn't smell of it and nor did my friends who smoked even more regularly. I'd go with Occam's razor ie, the most obvious explanation. I know of 14 yr olds who smoke it, it's not that unusual, albeit not advised. Speak to her again & explain your concerns.
