TEENAGE DISCO PARTY FOR DAUGHTER

My daughter is going to be 13 in December. She wants to have a disco party in a hall but the prices for the hall are too much - £200 just to hire. So I said to her that she could have the party at home but not invite too many of her friends. She said she wants to have 30 but I feel that is too much - my husband thinks 12 max but I think about 20 max. I have a through lounge and it is a long room but not so wide.

Has anyone had a teenage disco for their kids at home? If so how many did you have? Is it a good idea or should I just pay the £200 for the hall hire and let her have as many as she wants.

We have said to her though that she could either have the party or a present from us but not both. DJ is costing about £200 alone and the food on top will be extra.

Any ideas on food/drinks as well?

That comes from a mum with grown ups, so been there and as an ex professional children's entertainer and DJ.
They think they'll enjoy it but they won't and the dramas with so many girls.
Do not under estimate the tears and tantrums and Lord help them if an element of competition is hinted at.

Jeez where in the country are you? We hired a castle for Dds 13th back in February and it was £180 for the hire and DJ!! That was for 3 hours on a weekday evening.

We supplied a sweetie buffet and drinks too, just cans of juice all from a cash and carry.

I wouldn't want lots of teens in my house.

Could you not hire a disco dome?
They are a lot cheaper then hiring a hall and come with pretty much everything you need to have an ace party and you can do it from the comfort of your back garden and just put on a little spread.

Are disco domes like bouncy castles?

I keep reading on MN how people have hosted teen parties in their own homes, and it has all gone swimmingly well. Reality with real life friends is that they would never ever do it again!

One (and only one) friend who does do it again has a marquee to put up in their garden, and an outside loo so that no partygoers are allowed inside.

I did it twice and would do it again.

For a 13 year old you'll be there, it won't get (too) out of hand. We had about twenty 14-16 year olds dancing in a roughly 8x4m room (with some furniture) and that was fine, about right. Take out anything if you'd be upset if it got broken or spoilt.

I wouldn't bother getting a DJ for twenty teenagers in your lounge though! Have easy buffet food and drink, and then get some pizza delivered at 11 or whenever you want them to settle down a bit before going home.
