New driver insurance

Has anyone been able to get their own family cars insured for a new driver, or have you had to buy a small car for your teen to use ?

My car is a 1600cc diesel and Marmalade won't insure cars over 1400cc. They were happy to insure while she was learning and under my supervision, but not once she has passed her test and is driving alone.
Marmalade are an offshoot off Hastings so I assume same rule applies there.

Ds has managed to get insurance on a 1.6 diesel i30 for 1100 with Insure the box

Forgot to say he passed his test in august but has turned 21 since. Quote was this week. There were quite a few willing to insure him on the 1.6 but was expensive.

Sheila's wheels allowed me to add my daughter for a month over the summer which is all I requested. 1.6 diesel.

Lve added ds for a week to family policy on the i30 and would add him for the rest of policy, but that means he isnt building any ncb.

Added mine on to my Direct Line insurance, but only for my small car 1000cc. When I was looking for insurance for DS aged 20 for his own car the price became unrealistic for any engine size over 1300. This was all without black boxes though.
