My son is 14 and hasn't been ill for years thankfully! But last Friday he went down with a virus and has been pretty poorly since, the dr said on Monday that ibuprofen and fluids would suffice in his recovery but now he has white spots on his throat!!! I know Drs these days are reluctant to prescribe antibiotics and I understand why but does he need them to get better or will his body fight this himself?? Any advice gratefully received??

It sounds like tonsillitis, my teenage son has had it a couple of times and the last time did have antibiotics as we were about to go on holiday and he was quite poorly. I am generally quite anti antibiotics, but sometimes they are needed.
