Clothes for lanky 13 year olds?

My eldest is 13 and a half and super skinny - we still have to get pull in waist trousers and although he eats me out of house and home is just one of those infuriatingly skinny types.

He is around 5 feet 5 and growing quickly -and growing out of lots of the kids ranges in shops we have traditionally gone to for clothes. He is completely un-fashion conscious and not interested in teen brands like Hollister and the rest. He just wants comfy basics of trousers, shirts, hoodies, t-shirts but that fit! Men's small is often way too big, lots of kids ranges stop at 13 or 14.

Where are you all shopping for your teenage boys???

Primark!! topshop if you have the dosh.

I thought Primarks' boys range stopped at 14? Haven't looked at Topshop tbh. He's a firm H&M fan, Gap too.

Primark small Mans size. TK Max as well for small man size.

Primark extra small mans for 5 foot 7 DS with skinny waist. M & S do super skinny school trousers with an adjustable waist and I buy men's jeans by the waist size

Great, will look in man's section next time we're in. I have found a "small" man's in places still too large, but XS might be OK.

H&M do up to 14+ size and tend to be slim fit - otherwise Next but only on-line, go up to age 16.

I have a DD who is also stick thin but tall and we had to start buying ladies clothes in tiny sizes. On a plus note the tiny sizes are usually reduced as no adult actually fits in them!

DSs were nearly 5'9 on their 13th birthday but were never really super skinny - they didn't fit in kids ranges by the time they went to High School. Now 16 and 15 and 6'3 and 6'1 and men's L/XL.

It's an expensive business owning a teenager.

My lanky teen is a girl so maybe a bit easier, but a lot of her stuff is small adult sizes rather than childrens/teens ranges.

She's grown 6cm in the last 12 months

My 5'9" 15 year old fits in child sizes as well as small mens.
He wears super skinnies from Next with tops from H&M, ASOS and Boohoo. His main interest in fashion is shoes. (Nike)

Would he wear second hand? I've just bought loads of good quality, used clothes off ebay

My DS2 is 13 and 5ft 4in. He's got a 26" waist so is quite slim.

So your DS might fit into XS or XXS and I googled top man, jack wills, Hollister and 'bundles'.

I also got him some slim-fit joggers which came from China and are a lovely fit around the waist and in length.

Absolutely no problem with second hand! I volunteer in a charity shop and the shirt he's probably worn the most is a Hillfiger one I got in a sale for £2.50. It's weird, we just don't get as many men's clothes donated as we do women's. Will have to start keeping my eyes peeled for XS or XXS men's sizes.

I guess by 14 generally they don't want kids clothes. Ds1 is 19 and refused clothing from the kids range around 13/14 and ds2 is 14 and wouldn't fit in the kids range He's 6ft3 with size 12 feet!

Ds1 was tall and slim for age and we shopped basics at primark and h&m men's wear and then the odd item from hollister, Superdry and sports brands in an xs.

We have opposite problem with dd and she's a size 4 but this seems to be a very popular size in new look and top shop and often sold out before the sales.

ASOS own brand is outstanding for coming in a wide range of sizes - my 6ft 2 19 year old DS is wearing jeans which are 27 inch waist 34 inside leg from there where topman only start at a 28 waist and don't do a long leg in that. It was the only place I could get a suit for sixth form, a dinner suit for the prom etc for DS. He's obviously much older than your DS, but all 3 of my teens including 14 year old DD, have favoured Urban Outfitters for tops and jackets. These are more forgiving on the lanky so when they were stuck with the ASOS choice they could at least balance it out with a must have top.

If you have an unfussy teen the ASOS outlet section is great as they have things for pretty much charity shop prices and the filters are pretty good so you can just look at jeans and trousers in the dimensions you are after.

I feel your pain! My son at 13 was 5'5", very slim.

I recall buying several men's t-shirts in the Fat Face sale, size XS. Great quality too.
