Fixed braces - advice needed

DD15 has just had fixed braces put on, top and bottom.

She is a bit of a drama queen at the best of times, but she is very down and crying a lot that it hurts and aches all of the time. It's been 3 days since they were put on.

I know that they will be sore and uncomfortable for a while until she gets used to them, but I'm just looking for reassurance that this is normal behaviour 3 days in?

Also, she has 2 blue kind of 'stoppers' attached to her back/last teeth which stops her from biting her teeth together. I assume this is to stop her top teeth from damaging the braces on her bottom teeth? However it is making eating very difficult as she is unable to bite or chew properly.

Any advice appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Took dd a couple of weeks to adjust. She was just recovered from dental surgery, so it was a shock to us both!

It's been 20 years since I had mine fitted and I still remember how sore they were! I lived on soup and ice cream for the first few days after they were fitted and again when they were adjusted. I'd also suggest some bonjela and wax for the brackets (I could get the brackets at my orthodontist) to protect the sore bits of her mouth. It will settle down but yes, sympathy is in order! Smile
