Anyone else's DC not gone/going to prom?

DS 16 doesn't want to go to his school prom, he's not the most sociable child, preferring online gaming to parties and drinking which is fine but I feel a little sad when I see prom pictures from friends children.
Both he and his sister have attended single sex schools which have a joint prom, DD attended both her y11 and 13 proms and had a blast.
I know it's his choice and there is still the y13 prom in two years but I would love to see him in a suit excited about going out with his friends.

ds didn't bother, I wasn't really even aware that it was happening- a non event.

My DS(18) wouldn't go to his, said it's not his thing which is true. Like yours he's not very sociable & prefers online gaming & spending time at home with us to going to parties & drinking.

I felt a bit sad the other week when I saw his classmates all dressed up in suits on the way to their prom, but I understand his reasons for not going. I definitely felt a bit wistful as it's the last one for him as he's now left school, but have to respect his feelings about it.

My DS didn't go to his Yr 11 prom as we had bookd a holiday for as soon as his exams finished, thinking the Prom would be in May, when it had previously been - only they changed it to June after the GCSEs for his year so he missed it. He really wasn't bothered. He was also someone who preferred to stay at home gaming. He did go to his YR 13 ball/dinner though which was a much more civilised affair and without all the glitz and fuss of the Yr 11 prom.
Those of you who say your DCs prefer to stay at home and prefer that to parties and drinking - my DS was exactly the same at school. He rarely went out and if he did it was an organised meal with friends for Christmas/end of year. He has just completed his 1st year at Uni and has embrassed drinking,girls and clubbing big style. So much so that he has failed his end of Yr 1 exams and has resits to do Hmm

DS1 didn't go - not his sort of thing, none of his circle of friends went either. He's never regretted not going, and tbh prom is a fairly new concept to me, outside of American teen movies so it mattered not a jot to me if he went or not.

DS2 has his on Monday, he think it's a laugh and is going with a group of friends who also think it's a laugh (DS1 is wearing converse with his waistcoat/tie/shirt combo) I have a feeling that DD will be the only one who takes it 'seriously' but luckily I've got a couple of years before that!

dd1 didn't go.
She's not into dressing up in fancy dresses / having hair and make up done. She's not anti-social, indeed has lots of friends.
I let her know she didn't have to go if she didn't want to, but if she wanted to go, she could go and not go OTT with clothes, too, but she chose not to.
It turns out, a lot of her friends didn't go.

Ds2 isn't going - he'd rather have his arm chewed off by crocodiles... He too is into online gaming and doesn't go out much so I wasn't too surprised when the letter about the prom never made it home

My DS wasn't remotely interested, and few of his nerdy friends went either.
Year 11 prom totally overrated IMO.

I didn't go to my prom and I don't regret it at all, I'm actually glad I didn't go.

DS1 didn't go to his Yr11 or Yr13 Prom/Leaver's Ball. He isn't unsociable but prefers computer gaming socialising.

DS2 went to his Prom last year and loved the suit, etc!

It doesn't suit everyone, does it? My 3 ds's all ended up at different secondary schools for various reasons and the proms were all slightly different too.

Ds1 is quite sociable but isn't really into dressing up and has severe food allergies. He went to prom as his mates were going and it was a social thing. There's a picture of him and a close friend in their tux's somewhere but I've never seen it.

Ds2 wasn't very sociable at that time, although he had a small but close circle of friends, but did like dressing up and felt it would be good to go. Which was a surprise as he is a very restricted eater so didn't like the food on offer. He's arty so there were lots of pics and some images he played around with on the computer to make them more interesting. I've seen them.

Ds3 is very quiet and into online gaming (when he isn't at all quiet and is usually talking nineteen to the dozen to fellow gamers or laughing raucously with them). He doesn't like most foods and doesn't like dressing up either. He didn't go to prom.

There wasn't such a thing as prom (in England, anyway) when I was at school. Someone organised a much more informal meal and disco after we finished A levels. Prom's too over-the-top for my liking but we seem to be stuck with it now.

My DS went but when we picked him up he looked like he wished he hadnt. Soooo glad they didnt have proms when I was a teenager.
