How much allowance do people give a 16 year old? We currently give 16yo DD £70 a month with which she buys her own clothes (not school uniform). We also pay phone contract on top of that. Just wondering if that's about right or not.

Is that 16 as in Y11 or 16 as in Y12?

Y11 my DC had a paper round. My DS was also a football ref. I paid for mobile contract and £20 a month. I would also buy clothes when needed but would not buy another pair of jeans when they had numerous pairs already that still fitted

Y12 - expected to have a part time job as well as college. Still paid mobile, bus pass, £20 and some clothes.

Y11 16 and for health reasons a part time job is probably a while away

Sounds OK to me but I would be tempted to get the boring things like socks and pants
