Foundation or Higher Maths Paper

Which are your DC doing?
My DD is going into year 10 and worried that she may not be moved onto the Higher Paper. Advice?

Dd just took higher level paper 1 in y10. Next year Additional Maths.

Depends on her predicted grade, really.

If she is hoping to get a C, she'll be better off on Foundation.
If a C is the lowest grade she's likely to come out with, she should probably do Higher, with the caveat that it has more content to learn/revise.

If she is worried she should discuss it with her teacher.

The new GCSE is way tougher than the old one and I suspect that thousands more students will be entered for the Foundation paper than Higher, as it now will go up to a B grade equivalent (5) and will be more like the old intermediate paper.

Level of entry is decided based on what is most appropriate for your DD, why does she want to be entered for the higher paper and why does she think she might not be?

Targeted A but Predicted B, she wants to be able to get a Higher grade than the C on Foundation by Year 11 and is worried she won't be moved onto it. Thanks for the replies.

She won't be getting a letter grade, it will be a number. If she has a target of an A/B then she should be entered for Higher. However, no one has sat the new GCSE yet and we don't have any results or grade boundaries to inform judgements, so expect both targets and predictions to be revised (and changed to numbers) once more information is available.
