My sister is a single mum living near tring and is about to swap from pt to ft working hours. She is looking for help with child care or somewhere where my nephew 13yrs old can go as she has been let down by a child care assistant. What child care or nannys are in and aroubd tring and do they pick up children from school etc

Does he have additional needs ?

I didn't use after school care once mine left

ineedamoreadultieradult · 27/05/2016 18:21

I'm also wondering why he can't stay alone it old only be a few hours and he presumably has access to a phone for emergencies.

ScarletOverkill · 27/05/2016 18:22

Echoing the question of why he needs childcare

AnyFucker · 27/05/2016 18:23

Left primary, sorry

SavoyCabbage · 27/05/2016 18:25

Are there no after school clubs he can go to if she doesn't want him by himself for the whole three hours?

My dd does so,e extra curricular stuff and sometimes she goes to the library. Then she just hangs around at home.

fastdaytears · 27/05/2016 18:53

Think there must be more to this. Why would your sister need childcare for a 13 year old?

AgentProvocateur · 27/05/2016 18:55

I don't think she'll find childcare for a 13 year old. Most stop at 12.

musicposy · 27/05/2016 20:58

Is there a reason why he can't cycle/ get the bus/ walk home and then just let himself in? Or stay in the school library for a couple of hours? Or go into the town for a couple of hours and be picked up from there?
I don't know anyone who had childcare when my DDs were that age (only a couple of years ago, not the dark ages!). The DCs just got themselves home and let themselves in. Preferably with a few chores to keep them from getting into mischief Grin

There has to be more to this.

Why does he need childcare? Are there specific mental/physical health issues?

RomComPhooey · 30/05/2016 17:05

And also why on earth would you think advertising on a very public forum would be an appropriate way to find suitable childcare? You have no idea about the credentials or otherwise of people replying.

JinRamen · 30/05/2016 18:05

By the time he walked home, perhaps via the shops for a drink and snack it would be almost four if not later so he would only be home an hour or so by himself?

lulucappuccino · 30/05/2016 18:06

Childcare for a 13 year old?

Hercules12 · 30/05/2016 18:07

Surely no reason for childcare or I am a terrible parent.

fitzbilly · 30/05/2016 18:58

13 year olds don't need childcare! He just needs a key and a method for getting home from school. If he can't get home himself most secondary schools run an after school club and various sports clubs after school he can attend.

Hi Suezb,

It might be an idea to point your sister in the direction of Mumsnet Local.

Here's a link to the Hertfordshire site where you'll find a list of Childcare services available.
