14yo got a tattoo

eaturveggies123 · 04/03/2016 22:51

Just found out my 14yo daughter has a tattoo. I'm fuming. I had no knowledge of this, and she defiantly would not have had permission if she asked.
I found out after she had showered (it's on her ankle). I asked her what it was, and she ran into her room. Fast forward an hour to when she emerges. Big argument follows and she storms out and goes to her fathers house. As far as I could see it was an elephant with some morse code (I think) above it. She refused to tell me where she had gotten it done.

Can you check phone's browsing history for details of tattoo shop?

specialsubject · 12/03/2016 18:11

no professional in the UK will tattoo a child - there's no legal difference between her and a baby when it comes to tattoos.

let's hope the previous customer didn't have anything she doesn't want to catch, because a dodgy tattoo shop is a GREAT way to pass on Hep C, HIV etc.

has this been mentioned?

User543212345 · 12/03/2016 18:15

Has she told you the tattoo shop yet? I wouldn't be giving her any privileges at all until she tells you where it was done. As specialsubject says there are all manner of blood borne diseases that can be contracted if the tattoo shop is as sloppy with its hygiene as it is with its adherence to other laws. I'd be making a huge complaint to the authorities once she gave the details too.

What massively baffles me is that she knew how cross you were - and rightly so - after the first one and then got another. What is the purpose of this "rebellion"?

RudeElf · 12/03/2016 18:19

I would say the second one is a direct result of you not actually being cross enough about the first one. What consequences were there for the first one? Or did you let it go when she fobbed you off with that story about her aunt?

No reputable tattoo studio would tattoo an underage person; not at the risk of getting into trouble with the law... Let's hope she doesn't regret them when she's older!

eaturveggies123 · 12/03/2016 21:42

She got the second one a day after the first one. I was plenty cross, had shouted at her quite a bit. They're quite nicely done (besides the point), so I don't think she'll regret them. She said the guy used new needles (she saw him take them out of a sealed packet) and that her friends mum had gotten one done there. I've arranged to go see the friends mum tomorrow so will hopefully find out where it's as done

I am confused, you said she had the second one done today then said it was done the day after the first one which was weeks ago?

pinkyredrose · 12/03/2016 21:49

Her friends mum got one there too? Oh ok then it must be a reputable place. OP could you put pics of the tats on here so we can see how professional they are?

IoraRua · 12/03/2016 21:51

Another one confused. Either she got it today, or the day after the last one. So which is it?

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 12/03/2016 22:02

It doesn't say that it was done today. It says that she's done it again and it's clear that the op has only just found out about it but given that her DD manage to hide the other one for a period, it's conceivable that this one could be hidden too.

I second the request for photos, I'd like to see how professional they are. You need to identify the place and make sure they are clear on her age so she can't get any more.

She might not regret them, but Peter Pan is quite niche. Claires Accessories etc are always full of Peter Pan things because it appeals to teens and I had a henna of a Peter Pan quote and silhouette at 16 that I thought I'd love forever but now I'm 25, I've well and truly grown out of it and I'm glad it only lasted a few months!

dementedpixie · 12/03/2016 22:12

She did say the Peter pan one was done today: The Peter Pan one, she got it done today is what OP said

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 12/03/2016 23:10

Oops, sorry demented. I've no idea how I missed that... I may need my bed.

Alisvolatpropiis · 12/03/2016 23:20

I am astounded that a professional place would charge on £20/£25 for a tattoo. Perhaps less surprised she's found one which will tattoo a child.

PootLevato · 12/03/2016 23:30

Are you on Facebook? Try looking for tattoo shops in your area, most places post
photos of their work day by day. You might be able to see them on there?

Sorry all! I meant she got the second one the day after I found out about the first. I'll put up pictures tomorrow, if she'll let me.

No one is going to advertise on fb, a 20 pound tattoo done on a teen!

rainbowstardrops · 13/03/2016 07:21

I'm totally Shock at this!

I can't believe your DD would go and get yet another tattoo done the day after you'd confronted her about the first one! She'd be grounded indefinitely and phone taken away until she earned some trust back that's for sure!

I would also demand she tell me where she got it done, otherwise I'd be threatening to call the police. Think I would anyway to be honest.

If a tattoo parlour isn't concerned about checking ID then I'd be seriously worried about what else they're not too bothered about.

I'd also want to know where she got the money from. Silly girl

Ememem84 · 13/03/2016 07:49

If it is a reputable place, I think I want to know where it is. Both my tattoos cost close to £100 each. And they're only small. And in cover-uppable places

juniperdingleberries · 13/03/2016 07:55

Some places do charge cheaper prices, that are still reputable, legal business. Sometimes the tattooists have less experience which is why they charge a bit less. I've always said as a rule though that I don't go anywhere that charges less than £60 per hour/ £40 for a smaller design. The more you pay, the better quality (I've never seen an exception to that rule with tattoos)
They should have given her an aftercare form to sign with her details on- could you have a look around and see if you can find one?

ChipInTheSugar · 13/03/2016 07:57

If you've "arranged to see friend's mum" why didn't you just ask her at that point which tattoo studio she goes to?!

pinkmagic1 · 13/03/2016 08:22

Do you think your dd may have a fake ID

ProfGrammaticus · 13/03/2016 08:27

The elephant may be sentimental but it's still going to look awful if she gets a job where she needs to look smart and wear a skirt.

eaturveggies123 · 13/03/2016 09:57

I only had a brief look at the elephant, on second thoughts it's pretty awful. She claims she got the money off a friend (?). No detail to which friend and when I pushed, she said it was a friend who I know wouldn't have the money spare to lend her. She's lost phone and laptop and grounded until at least her birthday (which is a few months away).
