Early periods

my 9 yr old has just asked me to 'take a look' in her knicks. And it looks like she has had a show.

I was 11 when I started my period and completely under-developed in every other way. Is my baby following suit but only younger?

I haven't made a big issue over it. She knows about periods already. I just said that her body might be starting to change.

Help!

Poor thing. That is very young! Has she got a little bag of pads/pants/ bags? I put them in a pencil case for my girls so they weren't embarrassed about them being in their bags. Does she know who to talk to at school if she starts there?

No, no and no! I think I need to get her one. Thank you. I don't have periods on my pill so don't even have anything round the house I can give her. I think I'm going to go and get some.

I wasn't really ready for this to happen yet. She's only a little dot. One of the smallest in her class!

My now 10 year old (December baby) started her periods last sept. She had 3 bleeds quite light then nothing for 3 months and is getting cramps again this month. It does seem young and my dd is struggling with all the other bits (body odour/hair etc).
She has a small zip purse in her bag for school with liners etc in and school have been fab letting her use the teachers toilets.

Think it is hard being one of the first to start at school. Both my girls had this. As more girls start they tend to talk about it a bit more, lend each other pads if they forget etc.

I get mine those poppin bags which are a bit like nappy sacks. Also buy them cheap Primark pants so that they can just chuck them if they have an accident.

It might just have been a blip though and she might not start for ages.

She's 10 in a month. . I guess I just wasn't ready. I thought I was young!

She has started to get quite greasy hair in the past few months.

And hopefully it was just an early blip

DD1 had a blip when she was only eight. It was actually only my second ever thread I started on here!

However, blip is all it was, she didn't really get going for several years afterwards.

Nevertheless no harm in using the occasion to have The Conversation and make sure she has a period kit organised.

Also if you don't have them yourself, make sure your home and bathroom in particular are period friendly. A flip top bin with a liner in every loo, and emergency supplies in a cupboard or box somewhere in each loo too.

I started my periods at 9, my oldest daughter started hers on her 11th birthday, my youngest daughter didn't start hers until she was 15 and a half.
When I started mine it was light for a few months and gradually built up. When my oldest started hers the first one lasted for 15 days....... I felt so sorry for her, she was straight in at the deep end and had to get used to it all quickly.
I was still at primary school as was my daughter, she was in year six but I don't think the school had processes in place to deal with periods. There was no where to put used towels for example.

Talking about it so that they are prepared is the best you can do for them, the fact your daughter is keeping you informed is great

She will be fine! It is scary starting so young but I got used to it after a few months.

Thanks everyone. I started mine at 11 and it was straight into full-on, heavy periods for 10 days at a time and regular as clockwork from day one. So hoping that won't be the case and it's just a little blip.

My dds went straight to regular as clockwork too

It's earlyish but nothing to worry about. I'd have a quiet word with her teacher or TA, in case the real deal happens for the first time when she's in class.

I had that at 11, but didn't come on properly for another 6 months, so was effectively 11.5 when I started. It's still in realms of normal though.
DD started at 13 and she has had 3 periods in 6 months.
