spots and eczema

My ds (13) has just started to get teenage spots. He also has eczema. I'm looking for spot creams/washes that are manly and for very sensitive skin. I've got him some clearasil but although it's working it's really stinging his face.

Anyone?

For the spots we use a Boots Witchhazel and Teatree stick. It seems to help, and after a few weeks it cleared up the spots.

Now back to battling the eczema!

I find that, as when they were little, it is best for the skin not to do too much to it.

He washes his face just with water (or if in the bath, it has dead sea salts in it as that helps a bit). We avoid soap and cleansers for face.

How and are your DS's spots?

Are they just small bumps (in which case with hazel and tea tree are good) or deep "proper" spots (in which case you may need something stronger)

I have bad adult acne and also suffer eczema. I found origins deep pore cleanser and the charcoal face mask the answer. Not too drying.

I only apply the mask to my bad side and chin. Works well at de-flaming the big sore, under skin, ones.

Thank you for the replies. He has had to stop using the clearasil wipes as they were just making him really itchy. He never usually uses products on his face. He has a blemish stick too which is helping with his spots which are big angry red things bless him. I also have sensitive skin and can't even use the Simple range every day.

Clearasil and Simple are really harsh and not gentle at all - at least Clearasil doesn't claim to be but Simple does and should be ashamed.

Cetaphil cleanser should be manly enough - it won't upset the spots or the ezcema as it's non-foaming and is a dermatologist favourite. You can get it in most pharmacies.

You can't clear spots with a cleanser though or by putting a blemish stick on spots that have already developed. I wouldn't be happy to give advice on lone to someone who potentially also has facial ezcema complicating things, not just teenage acne.

Does he have facial ezcema as well and how bad are his spots? I suspect what he really need if he has facial ezcema/bad spots is a trip to his GP not trialling different facial products.

If no ezcema on his face and the spots are mild the get him some Effaclar Duo instead - for his whole face - not just individual spots, and build up slowly from every other day to twice a day if he can manage it.

Otherwise, straight to GP.

I would go see a GP with that combination of problems.

I make my daughters cleanser using witch hazel, rose water, tea tree oil, lavender essential oil, vit e to stop it going off and some burglars oil and lemon juice. It works pretty well and doesn't make her nose eczema worse.

not sure if Aveeno is suitable but it's great for eczema/dry skin.

He uses Aveeno for his skin and it works wonders.
I've just ordered the SamFarmer skin care range travel pack to see if it works. It's designed specifically for teenage skin.

I was randomly having a conversation about spots with SiL who is a GP a while back. I don't know how bad your DS's spots are, but she told me (I think I have this right) that it is now understood that they're caused by specific bacteria on the skin, and there are very good treatments that the GP can give. Basically she said if your teen gets bad spots, it's absolutely worth going along to the GP because it's very likely they'll be able to help, as in cure them, rather than just help make them a bit better.
