attitude to education etc

Dd is bright, achieved well. We are waiting for Camhs for anxiety and other. Since meeting her first boyfriend, her attitude to everything has gone out the window really. She jacked in a job she started recently claiming it was too onerous with a levels. However, straight away she's round the boyfriend's. Every day this week and before she has been late for school. I mean arriving at 9 claiming tiredness. This morning she is in the shower at 6.....because she's seeing her boyfriend. I'm pretty hacked off tbh. She's lower 6th.

She's young and "in love" so naturally, she's being a bit of an idiot.

Let her have her fun for a little while, if the school is good they will be on top of it too, and then you can have a chat about her A-Levels etc.

Right now though, (in her mind) the most important thing in her life will be her BF, and spending time with him.

That's ok! I get it I think, but I am worried about the impact on school, and I feel a bit irritated?

Ahh, yeah, it will impact her a bit, but hopefully, she'll get a short sharp shock soon from school and will buck up :)

When did this bf appear?

Just before the summer. So fairly long term by now for that age !

Not much you can do really is there? You can't exactly 'ban' her from seeing him (you could make it difficult though by not giving her lifts etc)

What does she say when you ask her how Sixth Form is going?

Well not good, hence the sympathy! I agree, pointless and unkind to ban them, maybe I need to actually find time to discuss it rather than the way you talk to younger kids (first teen!)

Is she doing OK with the ALevels? Have you had parents' evening yet? DS1 also Year 12 and the workload has been really full on. Is she keeping up?

Well, that was me 40 years ago. My parents did nothing and I quit school and got a job. Something I regretted later.
Agree with Sparkling Y12 is full on and those who don't step up a gear from GCSEs tend to do badly in AS. I know they don't all do AS now, even more reason to be on her case.

Yikes Bare! That's what I don't want!
Sparkling - it's due in December so will see what they say.
I'm just worried that the timing is off; she really wanted a job and has given it up but seems to think there's now more boyfriend time!
