DD being bullied but doesn't know I know - help!

My DD has recently started using social media and I check her accounts from time to time - I'm not up for a debate on whether that's right or not but I've found something out which makes me feel it's justified.

She has a minor aspect of her appearance (think big teeth but not that) which she's very self conscious about and a girl is giving her a really hard time through direct messages. The ones I saw were really nasty, full of horrible slang that I didn't entirely understand tbh but I definitely got the gist. From looking at other messages I know this is upsetting DD.

Obviously I want to help if I can - not necessarily do anything but at least be supportive and let her know I'll step in if she wants me to - but if she knows I've been checking her account she won't be very pleased.

Any ideas what I should do?

Cyber bullying is taken very very seriously by the authorities now and rightly so. Could you screen shot the worst of the messages and take them to school (assuming the perpetrator goes to the same school?). Ask to speak to head of year/safeguarding and explain the situation. They should be able to deal with it sensitively.

I appreciate that it would be taken seriously (and good idea about screenshotting) but without discussing it with DD I don't know how she would prefer to handle it.

Screen shot then see how it goes? She might eventually confide in you.

I would try and manipulate the conversation round to the subject of cyberbullying and see if she opens up.
