What age for the walking dead?

DS is almost 14 and has asked us if he can watch the walking dead.
We've had the usual story about how his friends etc watch it.

Myself and DH have only just started watching it and are on episode 4 of season 1. I don't think I've seen anything he couldn't handle so far but before I decide I'd like to know of it gets worse?

The gore is fine, DS doesn't scare easily at all, is very scientific minded and would appreciate the making of the effects and I know he'd love the storyline I've seen so far, but I'm not comfortable with him watching sex scenes, very bad language or unnessacerry violence between humans (ie, not self defence)

I'm thinking maybe he should wait another while but then I have form for being an overprotective parent and am finding the teen years a little difficult to maneuver as he is maturing so fast!

Google says it used to be rated 17 but has been reduced to 14 (I can't seem to find a definitive answer)

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks! Smile

Dd was 13, she loves it.

There's very little sex in it, the bad language isn't the worst, but there's a lot of human-human violence - the necessity of which may be debatable!

My son's 14, nearly 15 and I'd be ok with him watching it. I love it. I'm not sure a young teenager would truly appreciate some of the deeper concepts though Smile

Why don't you finish the first series and then decide?

I think the first couple of series would be fine but it does get darker and more violent in later series, but it is still my all time favourite series!

Thanks folks.
I'm going to watch the rest of the series first and if it's OK then I'll watch series one again with him.

I'll probably do that for all the other series too and wait until he's a bit older when they start getting too dark. Smile

I have seen all the seasons of The walking dead so far and I would let my 14 year old watch it.
Yes there is a lot of violence but also a great storyline that shows humanity at it's very worst and then best in the same episode.
Why are you not comfortable with him watching the sex scenes, is it because it makes you cringe or that you don't think he is old enough?
The very bad language he will be hearing and most probably using when you are not around anyway, it is just words.

Oh don't watch with him! Nothing more embarrassing for a 14 yo lad than watching sex scenes with his mum!

ThereIsIron · 16/09/2015 17:25

DD 13 has been watching it. I think she found it a bit boring after a while.

ChickenTikkaMassala · 17/09/2015 18:20

It's violent and there's one or two not graphic at all sex scenes, as long as you're comfortable with him seeing people being eaten and torn apart then knock yourself out. I love it.
