Any experts on periods here?

She's 15 and only told me last week that she hadn't had a period since February. I made a doctor's appointment for tomorrow. She started this morning.

Do I still need the appointment?

If it were me I'd go anyway if it isn't too big an inconvience to your day. It's probably nothing, even if it is though it gives the doctors an easy slot and if it's a quick one it gives them a chance to catch up if they're running late, or perhaps pop to the loo!

I say his from the point of view of a friend who is a GP who is often desperate for the loo!

she's now told me that she's only ever had a period once every few months, but the last one was the longest.

will be going to doc tomorrow in the light of this.

It happened to me as a teen (30+ years ago). Turned out to be one of the first signs of PCOS. At the time I was underweight and doing exams so had an initial diagnosis of stress causing irregularity but the doctor thankfully sent me off to the hospital for a scan and blood tests - more to rule out pregnancy than rule in anything else.

My DD had a similar diagnosis of PCOS six/seven years ago and the difference in her treatment compared to mine was immense.

I had stupidly light and irregular periods all through my teens and then as an adult once I was no longer on the pill. Now I've had 2 kids they are normal - every 28-33 days and mediumish in flow.

No pcos as far as I know. When we were ttc dd1 it was awkward to know when I was fertile/ late - bought a lot of tests in that 11 months! Dd2 was one drunken error so fertility clearly not affected.

Hope this settles your mind a bit but worth seeing gp anyway.

I know my dd is a lot younger, but she started her periods when she was 10. Now 3 years later, they are still very erratic, once every couple of months or so, and then sometimes light and other times quite heavy. There seems to be no pattern really. But its always been like this so I'm not too worried, I am sure it will sort itself out. She is only 13.

If your dd was always regular up until now, I would have it checked out. But if things were a little erratic I would wait and see how it goes.

Is she ok about going to see the gp whilst on her period? He may feel her stomach etc, if she is sore it may be a bit uncomfortable for her today?
