itchy first bras

DD is 13 and I bought her first few bras a few months ago which she she has never worn as she says it feels itchy between her breasts. I then washed them in sensitve skin washing powder (tried Fairy and Surcare) and she stil hasn't worn them. When I bought her bras, she had only just started developing, but she really does need to wear a bra now Blush

I bought them from M&S from their Angel range

Any advice?

thanks - Euphemia - bought a few different designs but that was a while ago. Have looked at M&S again but hard to tell online, just wondered if anyone had any other suggestions before I go back to M&S again

Try soaking them in warm water and fabric conditioner to soften them up a bit ? I always do that with new bras.

are they the ones with the lacey back? my dd had them and they drove her potty. she won't wear anything lacey now

all bras are uncomfortable and no-one needs to wear one unless they are VERY well endowed, in which case the discomfort of the bra might be less so than without.

look for no lace (fugly and itchy) and no stupid trimmings. No underwire is also good, as are wide straps, but good luck getting those. This will reduce the M and S 'choice' to about 3 designs and they probably won't have the right size. Try Asda.

a sports bra/support top may also work.

My bras aren't uncomfortable at all! They're underwired and fit properly.

Yes I've measured her, but this is why I took her to M&S in the first place as a) was her first bra fitting and I wanted to make sure it was right and b) she will listen to the advisor and follow her advice

When I was young I was allergic to either the material or elastic. They used to make me so itchy under the breast. It was a real trial and error to find one that didn't make me sore.

Please please please stay away from M&S, their bra fitting is dreadful. Please follow the guide I've linked to up thread.

My DD had some from m and s but didn't like them for long she now ops for some soft padded ones from next which she loves and they are really good for the money. 2pk for £8. She Suffers eczema and uses sure care but is fine with them. She also has a new fashion design one she bought herself from new look - racer back to wear with fashion tops. We did buy some Royce ones aswell online which she stuck with for a while but they did vary a lot in size when you bought several the same. She still preferred next over them!

Watching with interest. My dd is 14 and her bras come from M and S and Debenhams. They're soft cup, slightly moulded/padded style.

How often do you get your teen girls remeasured/fitted? Dd has become VERY shy (more so than a few years back) and refuses to be refitted or even discuss bras so I've left it. I don't know exactly what size she is now but she's grown quite a bit, think she might be around a 30D.

have a really good look around in Primark and Matalan....I KNOW they have loads of sexy betsy hookertastic stuff, but Primark especially often have a great variety of soft cottony, tshirt bras, teen appropriate patterns, colours and styles, most of which have decent pants to match if that is what she wants

dd used to love it in there, any wired styles were mostly soft wired iirc, and none of it is that pricey so if the size is not right you can charity shop it/pass it on if you wish

excellent selection of sports underwear/tops when I was in there recently too.

shu what's the sizing like in primark? Do they do small back sizes and bigger cups, eg 30d or 30dd?

M & S bra fitters are awful, give terrible advice so it's not surprising the bras are uncomfortable.

I took dd to John Lewis, nice plain but pretty bras & fitted according to the interventionist method.

If any bra I wear has more than 10% elastane I get a terrible itch.

Somewhere on the bra label is the percentage content of the fabric.

Rather than rushing her into a fitted bra could you try something like the Avon one bra which has a bit of a support whilst the style and softness of a crop. I am in my 30s and it is the only bra I can keep on all day. The first thing I do in the privacy of my own home is remove the underwired buggers, I hate them and they constantly irritate me. DH is forever throwing them up the stairs after me :-/ Would love to have the confidence to go without Grin
