How tall is your 13 year old DS?

castlesintheair · 02/07/2015 13:37

Mine is about 5'10" and has size 43/44 feet (size 10?). We don't live in the UK at the moment so I'm never sure what's normal. DH and I aren't particularly tall: I'm 5'8" and he's 6'2". Every time I look and DS he appears to have grown. Is he going to end up 6'10" ?!?

OP posts:
Potterwolfie · 08/07/2015 13:47

My 11 year old DS is 5ft 3, size 6 feet. Both DH and I are a shade under 6ft so he's going to overtake us at some point!

VenusRising · 08/07/2015 13:48

Are you in the Netherlands OP?Grin

Your DS will be the sum of your combined heights, then divided in half and add five inches for his expected terminal height. I make that 6'5".

thunderbird69 · 08/07/2015 13:53

I think mine is about the shortest (although not amongst classmates)
About 5ft 2 and size 5 feet

His feet have just rapidly increased in size though so I think a growth spurt is imminent!

bigTillyMint · 08/07/2015 14:02

Venus, that would make my DS at least 6 foot - will be interesting to see if he reaches that!

My DS was in the shortest third of his class in Y6 - many of the girls were way taller than him! His voice broke 2 weeks after his 12th birthday in Y7 and he started shooting up like a weed, but he hasn't grown much recently.

WankerDeAsalWipe · 08/07/2015 17:02

It's not quite and exact science as far as height prediction is concerned or all same sex siblings would be the same height. There was about a 5 inch height difference between the shortest and tallest boy in my family and a range of 3 inches between my sisters and I.

According the red book (which is all in centimeters but i'll roughly translate) the calculation is (for boys anyway) Fathers height + Mothers height, divided by two to get the mid point and then add on 7cm (2.75 inches) to get the Mid Parental height (MPH). You then subtract 10cm (4 inches) from the MPH to get the shortest height and add 10cm (4inches) to the MPH to get the t expected height - your son should fall within that range. So in this case the MPH will be 5'11, the MPH will be just under 6'2 and your son should be between just under 5'8 and just under 6'6 .......I think :)

My two come out at between 5 10 and a half and almost 6'7 - but looking at the centile they are following I think DS1 will about 6'3.5 and DS2 about 6'4.5.

I would be interested to hear how tall your sons are now compared to when this was 1st posted. My 13 and a half year old son is 6ft 1 and i'm worried at how tall he will be. He has always been the tallest in his class but grew about 6 inches last year. Dad is 6 ft and i am 5 ft 10.

BG2015 · 08/04/2016 06:57

I didn't post on the original thread, but my DS12 (13 at the beginning of May) is 5' 9" and DS16 is 6' 1" . They wear size 11 & 12 shoes respectively.

I'm 5' 9" and their dad is 6"

I love being tall and both my boys look great!, nothing wrong with it.

kissmelittleass · 08/04/2016 07:04

Ds age 13 is about 5 ft 4 he has shit up since last summer and gas size 7 feet. I'm 5ft6 and dh us about 5ft 10, my dad and brother are around the 6 ft 3 mark so he might follow in their footsteps as he is on my side. There are lots of boys in ds year who would be a good 6ft and there are lots my ds height and a few smaller guys too, all normal.

Savagebeauty · 08/04/2016 07:06

My ds was always one of the smallest boys in school but at 14 grew 8 inches. At 16 he is six feet one .. I'm six feet. Ex is about two inches shorter.

kissmelittleass · 08/04/2016 07:09

Oh dear 'shit and ' gas lol bloody phone it should read 'shot and 'has.. Haha!!

bigTillyMint · 08/04/2016 13:04

Rosebud my DS hasn't grown any more since I last posted IFAIK. He was 5'10 at 13 and is about 5'11" now I think. He hit puberty early and shot up aged 12 - 13.

Ifailed · 08/04/2016 13:11

According the red book (which is all in centimeters but i'll roughly translate)
Interesting. I remember being told by a health visitor that we could estimate our DSs final heights by doubling their heights at 24 months. We checked a while back and it was surprisingly accurate!

rosebud1973 · 08/04/2016 21:27

Thank you so much for replying. This is my 1st post on here! Hopefully my Son will be the same as yours and stop growing very soon.

Katedotness1963 · 10/04/2016 16:26

Mine is a Tiddler! He's 14 and is just over 5'...I'm only 4'11 and his dad is about 5'8 so it's unlikely he's going to be very tall. He seems completely unconcerned about it and is happy that he's finally tall enough for the go-kart track...

Kenworthington · 10/04/2016 16:33

Ds2 is 13 and is 5'9 size 10 feet: i am 5'8 with size 9 feet and dh is 6' with size 9 feet too!
Ds1 is 6'4 and has suze 11-12 feet
Dd is 11 and a little bit on the short side poss for her age, feet size 3, again quite little.
Boys both heavy long babies at birth, dd comparatively smaller

bigTillyMint · 10/04/2016 16:47

Just been watching my DS play in his U15 footy team, and the heights ranged from about 5'4" - 6'4" and from boy to beard-needing-to-be-shavedGrin

BombadierFritz · 10/04/2016 16:55

Thats probably around 95centile (guestimate as i cant be bothered looking sorry). Ds is i think around 5'7 and thats 90th centile (ie out of 100 boys he is taller than 90 of them) so its tall but hard to say what that means for final height. I'd guess at 6'3

DramaAlpaca · 10/04/2016 16:55

rosebud DH & I are about the same heights as you & your DH. Our three sons are now in their late teens & early 20s and are 6'3, 6'2 & just under 6'. If your boy grew six inches last year he's probably had his main growth spurt & won't stretch too much more. DS1 grew six inches in a year at 13 but only a couple of inches since then.

BombadierFritz · 10/04/2016 16:57

Oh didnt realise it was a zombie thread sorry

rosebud1973 · 10/04/2016 17:30

thank you for your replies. You have all settled me down. I don't mind him being upto 6'4" but was getting worried he was going to be much taller. Thinking about it his feet haven't grown any bigger for the past 10 months so maybe he is almost done.

jaykay34 · 19/05/2016 18:29

Wow...some really tall boys on here.

My 13 year old DS is only 5 foot, and shoe size 5. I am 5'6 and his dad is 5'10. His twin sister is 5'4. He looks tiny compared to his friends, I'm expecting a growth spurt soon !

OneMagnumisneverenough · 19/05/2016 20:44

I was on the original thread but under a different name, neither of mine have grown significantly over the last year, only an inch or so, Ds2 still looks like he is brewing though and he is still only 14 so I think he could go a few inches yet - he's currently just under 6'1 - DS1 is still 15 and is about 6'2.5, he seems to be filling out a bit rather than growing up - broadening across the shoulders - maybe that's him finished? DH says he grew a fair bit at 17/18 so who knows ?

BG2015 · 19/05/2016 22:21

DS13 is 5' 10 and DS16 is 6' 1" - they both have size 12 feet. I'm thinking DS16 may have stopped growing.

I'm 5' 9" and their dad is 6'

Both gonna be tall, which I'm pleased about. Tall men are lovely!

Bombaybunty · 19/05/2016 22:30

5'11" with size 11 feet. He's 14 in July.
We're both tall so expect him to be about 6'3" eventually. He's just showing signs of puberty!

vdbfamily · 19/05/2016 22:47

I have a 13 year old DD who is 6'1" with size 10 feet. Hoping she might stop growing soon. I am same height but grew until I was 14 so she may get a couple of inches taller.
