Millets have a good range of affordable tents.

www.millets.co.uk/festival/festival-tents/

It may get destroyed and left behind afterwards, so I suggest as cheap as possible. Otherwise do you have a local free cycle network ? It's worth asking around someone might give you one they are the sort of things people stash away in the loft for years and years.

And make them take some heavy duty plastic bin bags they can sleep in/on or put wet and filthy clothes in.

Hope they have fun.

A pop up tent, something like this ? It is a three man tent - in my experience 2 man tents are very 'cosy'!!

Cheapest pop up you can find for them to leave behind

Actually there is (or used to be) a company that provided festival kit to pick up on site & leave behind for recycling, hang on...

There's nothing on there atm - too early I suppose. Looks as if you'll get a bargain if you buy one now from Millets but I think the green tent packages were pretty reasonable last time I looked (they did sleeping bags etc as well to cut down on the amount of stuff the kids have to carry)

DD bought one from Decathlon last year for Reading. As already mentioned a 2 man tent for 2 people can be bit of a tight fit, especially with ruck sacks etc. A tent with a porch is a good idea for boots, wet clothing etc.

Just get whatever is on offer in Argos. It'll be destroyed anyway. Go for a 4 man tent for 2 people.

Absolutely heed the bin bag advice upthread!

KatharineClifton · 02/05/2015 15:17

This was the most popular festy tent last year www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/9275719.htm but it will be half price by the summer. This one is already half price www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/2956592.htm

Decathlon are the best pop up tents I've found for the money, they really are excellent.

Definitely size up.

DD bought a cheap one from Decathlon last year. Just as well as she didn't bring it home!

ssd · 02/05/2015 17:23

thanks all, I told him about the decathalon pop up tent, it had a great review, but he wants to choose his own with his pals so no doubt they'll buy something crap that will blow away or let the rain in.

he wont listen so its up to him now.

My advice would be to buy the cheapest. It definitely won't make it back home!
Hope he has a great time.

specialsubject · 03/05/2015 13:35

tell him at least to take it down and bin it after the festival, along with all his other rubbish.

the litter left after these events is revolting.

fishdishwish · 03/05/2015 14:57

Agreed, specialsubject - OP, please encourage him to at least take it down and dispose of it at the appropriate place.

I've always found Millets or Go Outdoors to be the best places. Pop-up tents go up easily but are a real bugger to get down and pack away again. Beware the ultra-cheap ones, as they will almost certain leak if (or more likely when!) it rains.

KatharineClifton · 05/05/2015 12:49

Not always necessary to take it away - me and the kids took down quite a lot of abandoned tents (as many as we had room for in the car) after a big festy we went to, then sold them on and made back my fuel money for the trip Grin

Heyho111 · 06/05/2015 22:41

Last year halfords sold them £50 came with tent , x2 sleeping bags, x2 roll mats and x2 chairs. They paid half each and left them there as they were disgusting.

fluffapuss · 08/05/2015 07:20

Hello SSD

Some people leave their tents, sleeping bags at festivals

Some festivals offer "pick up on site deals" tents, mats, sleeping bags

Any cheap pop up tent will do
