Should I make DD take part in competition?

My 16 yr old DD plays sport for a local club who have several teams ( she normally plays in one of the top teams). We agreed she would not train (normally 5 days/week) during revision period. Other girls have continued to train... She has now been asked to fill in for the bottom team at a big event which would take up most of a weekend. She knows this would be a big comedown for her and the experience would be a poor one ( for her) and take up a lot of time. Part of me knows that this is selfish and not being a team player but I do understand what she means (feeling bad just for saying that) and it would be time out of mid exam revision. What do I tell the coach who has asked if she can go? I don't want to tell the truth, which admittedly makes her look bad. I could stick to the party line that we've said no training until exams over but that makes me look a bit unreasonable maybe. Advice very welcome...

I would say no! She doesn't want to do it, and its exam time.
Do not let him guilt you. He is desperate, but its not your problem.

Say no due to GCSEs.
They should be giving someone who doesn't normally make the team a chance, not bringing in a ringer anyway.

Thanks, will give it a go. Tbh, it's been great not having to drive to the pool at the crack of dawn. It'll be harder on me than her to get going again once th exams are over :)

I have already called time on my DD during exams. she can do the basic but not the extra they'll want when the time comes.

stick to your original decision and remember why you made it in the first place.

my god I will be so glad when the exams are finishedConfused

it sounds like she wouldnt get anything out of taking part and as long as shes training to give her the downtime she should spend the weekend revising

tell the truth.

BTW love the old 'team sport' concept, not... they should indeed be giving someone else a chance to PLAY and just for once, take a chance on not winning. Shocking example from the coach.
