I am very worried about my 15yr old daughter, she got bloodtests done and is aneamic was put on iron tablets
But she seems so lethargic with stomach pains, also missing loads of school, she also says she is feeling weird and anxious
Anyone any ideas?

Does she have any other stomach issues? My DH has coeliac disease and gets very strange moods if he eats anything contaminated with gluten. Might be worth investigating.

TeenAndTween · 28/04/2015 12:55

I was going to say coeliac? too. Sounds like my friend at university.

rockodog1 · 28/04/2015 13:00

I just dont know what to do with her as she is so quiet and likes her own space!!
But she actually loves school

I hope the doctor comes up with some suggestions tomorrow,i really hope she is not a coeliac

Is the doctor aware of the stomach pains and lethargy?
How long ago since she went on the iron tablets?

Suggest you a) google coeliac and b) make a new appointment with dr.

TeenAndTween · 28/04/2015 13:06

coeliac would be OK you know.
You would understand the reason and there is as far as I understand a reasonable easy solution of not eating gluten. gluten free foods are quite easy to come by in supermarkets these days, not like 25 years ago.
Glad you have an appointment.

Hi she has been on the iron tablets about 4 months but she hates them as i was the same when i was pregnant with her lol
All will be explained to the doctor tomoro :P

Hope you get on ok today. Let us know what the doctor says.

rockodog1 · 29/04/2015 12:57

Thank you everyone,we are just back from the doctor, she has prescribed her a low dose of Lexapro and gave a blood test form to check for Coeliac disease

Iron tablets can cause digestive problems - the best one is probably spatone.

A good quality vitamin and multi-mineral supplement for women of child-bearing age would be a good idea too.

I hope she feels better very soon.

piggychops · 01/05/2015 07:07

Iron tablets made me feel really nauseous.

rockodog1 · 01/05/2015 09:56

Thank you but she has tried spatone and didnt like it

Didn't like the taste?

If it's the iron that's causing her stomach pains then it might be worth persevering with a gentler liquid iron supplement such as spatone. There's also a supplement with added iron called 'Floradix'. It tastes better.

Did the medics test her iron levels again?

Or consider why they were low?

chocoluvva · 01/05/2015 10:28

Sorry meant to say - liquid supplement called Floradix.

rockodog1 · 06/05/2015 00:08

Thank you chocoluvva love your name by the way as im a chocoholic!
Yes her blood test was to check her iron levels and maybe Coeliac,I have heard of that liquid supplement Floradix, the doctor prescribed her a smaller iron tablet this time so she seems to be taking it better than the last Enormous one

I also recommend Floradix. Iron tablets made me constipated. Floradix tastes quite good.
