nasty texts

My daughter is receiving nasty texts. They are not threatening, just horrible things (you are fat, ugly, spotty etc). Some of them also say things like "your boyfriend is having an affair" (he's not by the way, he's a good lad).
Will the police be able to help trace who's doing this?
Obviously the person will not be using a registered mobile, so its more likely than not a pay-as-you-go.
What are the chances of the police being able/bothered to help.
Thanks in advance

Unless the messages are threatening I doubt the police would do anything.

Get her to block the number either through her phone or her network.

Is it likely to be someone from school? If so I would make them aware as they tend to take action if it involves students at their school. Otherwise block the mumber

I am pretty sure that there are laws on stalking and whatnot, unfortunately, I don't know where to point you. I think a grown-up(*) will be along in a minute..
