I'm interested as to how other parents deal with this.

As you probably know, teenagers have very strange sleep patterns and in our house can be up till midnight at least.
We do have a rule that after 11pm they are to be in their own rooms, not necessarily sleeping but at least in their rooms. Well teenagers will try, test and break those rules and we will often find them in the kitchen making drinks/snacks.
To add to our misery we have stud walls with plasterboard so quite alot can be heard.

I'm not saying, in our house, this is a problem. we still manage private 'adult' time but we do have to be careful and very discreete.

I'm interested in how other parents deal with this phenomenom

Either wake yourself up very early in the morning, or wait till they are engrossed on PCs with headphones on......and be very quiet!!!

We have a TV in our room and a lock on our door Grin

Some evenings we spend all together and others we take a bottle of wine up to bed and watch a film, it works really well for us and we get the best of both worlds

Fortunately our bedroom is at the opposite end of the house to the DCs. And the soundproofing is excellent. Not that there's much bedroom action
