Following on from the other threads about our horrid teens. My dd is 15, surgically attached to her phone, miserable obnoxious and basically horrid, unless it's all about her. its the way she talks to me that angers me the most, the lack of respect, like I'm a piece of shit.

do you let it go, or not?

On the whole mine don't / didn't do it. I'm another one who would just refuse to engage with that sort of attitude! As I said in another thread DD is self absorbed but not rude! If 12 yo DS gets the attitude his dad is generally down on him pretty quickly. Oh, and I do expect an apology! I think "I'm disappointed" is a good thing to say - they don't tend to like that one!

I don't accept it either -it's one of the few things I've been completely black and white - no swearing or disrespectful talk. I'm fairly laissez faire about other stuff - I'm envious of parents who manage to 'make' their teens study and have a good work ethic/help around the house/be tidy.

I don't accept being spoken to like that. I tell DS the DC that they shouldn't speak to anyone like that, there should be mutual respect all round. I expect to be treated like a human being.

KatieScarlettreregged · 23/02/2015 10:49

No no absolutely not.
I have very few rules but I will not be disrespected by anyone, certainly not by my DC. In return, I treat them with respect.
When they chanced it (when they were much younger) they soon learned never to do it again unless they really wanted to hear Mums rant lecture on respect. As I am usually barely comatose, witnessing the Wrath of Mum usually shocked them into rethinking their language.

Absolutely. That's part of the rant lecture: what goes around comes around, do as you would be done by, etc.
