Herbal cigarettes...

15yo DS1 has a packet poking out of his bag.....

What is the correct action in this situation?

Gut feeling is to just take them and bin them while screaming "What the hell are you thinking???"

I'm pretty sure he bought them on-line.

what do you mean "herbal cigarettes"? I guess a lot of people think you will mean dope! but im thinking maybe you mean those ones without any tar / nicotine etc, I think they may have an indian on the packet?

ahhhhhhh I dunno. they are pretty rank. chances are he prob thought he was being cool, will "smoke" 2 of them then chuck them away or give them to a mate.

I'd be tempted to laugh at him. this may shame him into realising he's being a bit of a doosh in true 15 year old style.

oh yes I bought some of them when I was 15 - it was like smoking a bonfire. Think I might have thrown them out.

This is so hard....DS isn't doing anything DH and I didn't do at his age (with me us was reall cigarettes, lol), and we turned out perfectly square...but I don't want DS to do anything like this. Shock Sad

And yes he " could" be using them to smoke weed, but chances are he's just being a teen and experimenting. (I would keep an eye out for evidence of weed smoking tho just in case) Again, these are nasty and seem like a cool idea to a young teen, but I doubt the novelty will last as long as a packet.

I guess it's up to you if you feel this is a big deal. If you do, say something to him, if you don't, just leave it.

He's also saying he's going to get his lip pierced and dye his hair black when he turns 16 next week.

When or if he gets his lip pierced or hair dyed, pretend not to notice and then tell him it looks lovely, dear, just lovely. then do not mention it again.

hair colour grows out. Piercings heal if removed.

let him look ridiculous if he wants, and of course if it doesn't break school rules. Don't tell him it looks lovely, say nothing.

don't let him smoke the dog-turds in the house, though. Even if they are just 'herbs' you don't need the reek and the fire risk. Send him 100 metres away and downwind.

You could try asking him if you can try one. That should convince him that they are deeply uncool.

Also ask him where he's getting his lip done as they might give him a discount if you get yours done too. Hopefully you won't have to really do it though.

I wouldn't stress too much about piercings, they can be taken out. Better than a tattoo!

Don't laugh, ask to try one in a friendly way. Make no big deal about any of it - just get him to smoke them outside.

And ignore the hair/piercings - just make sure he realises he might need to comply with a school uniform policy so may need to take them out in 2 weeks - dd had hers done in the summer so they were healed before school started and could be taken out.

I hate the piercings and the ridiculous hair but it's not my body - and 2 years after having a grotesque belly button thingy done she's now taken it out of her own accord.

Save your ire for things that matter like being able to get into college/completing GCSEs and getting a job.

To which he replied he had no intention of becoming a high court judge. He is telling me he plans to work in McD's but I think that's just to wind me up. I think....
