had enough so am ranting

ds is 14 and just started yr 10
he is doing my head in. he is happy with 3 of his options but hates ICT he didn't want to do it but me and dh made him as we felt he would need it. now he is in trouble for mucking around in class.
he is now going to look into changing(teacher says he can) and doing something else. now I know it kind of makes sense to change as no point wasting 2 years if he is going to mess about. but i still feel it is such a bloody waste.

I can see that his behaviour is really frustrating, but you can lead a horse to water....

I would really expect him to be happier, nicer to live with and get a better grade doing things he wants to do. He would incidently not be off the hook for messing around in class !

Better to change now at the start of year 10 and do something that he enjoys/will work at.

You say 3 of the options are OK, what about the other subjects? Is he mucking about in other compulsory subjects like English , maths and science?

just asked him MB and no he is doing ok (although problems with science as the class is very disruptive will have to see if he can change class)
have agreed that he should look into whether he can change to health and social care(he has this thing that he wants to work at the school dd goes to ..sn school)
have you any advise about the science
he has always been ok at but easily distracted so hate the thought of him being in a disruptive class

I think it's better when they do things that they will enjoy doing. I think he'll pick up quite a lot of useful computer skills from the other subjects - I guess he'll have to use word processing for writing up assignments & the internet for research.

Computer skills are something that can always be studied later on if need be.

thanks have told him to go in and ask about moving. so just need to get science sorted. so any tips on getting him moved are welcome.
should explain that the mucking about was when he had to write a letter giving advice to a lottery winner....he told them to go to a brothel and get laid!!!
understandably the teacher wasn't impressed.
he is normally well behaved in class.

just to update you
ds is now sticking with ICT
met his teacher tonight and can see the problem. she is a bit stern and not very aproachable which might have put him off a bit. I tried to talk to her but didn't find her very helpful.
It was good as saw his science teacher as well.
