What are your opinions on the media, and magazines, from producers using photo shop to create unrealistic expectations for girls to live up to eg whiter teeth, bigger boobs, longer legs, smaller waist

OP posts:

That young girls aren't 1/2 as stupid as the media thinks they are and that they don't take much notice.

what are your opinions op?

I follow Stella McCartney on instagram. Yesterday whoever runs her account put up a very thin girl wearing a tshirt of hers and the comments were full of condemnation for it, so much so she lost followers and the pic was changed to one of a girl of a healthier looking weight. I think girls can be influenced but a lot are aware of what the fashion industry is doing

A few body image lessons in PHSE just highlight what a perfect woman should look like. DDs both said these lessons only heightened body awareness in a negative way.

It would be far better if schools put their own house in order

Tackling the awful food queues and rush at senior school lunch times that makes skipping lunch and controlling their eating so easy for stressed perfectionist girls (and boys).

And a trip to the sweet shop instead of lunch far easier for others.

Someone on the internet said Scarlett Johansson looked like hell in a bikini cos she had about 3 sq in of cellulite.

I want to meet that guy cos he must be really gorgeous or he'd keep his mouth shut, right?

They take as much notice as adults. We are all influenced whether it's let's turn ourselves orange and have huge trout lips or lets only go natural not shave and recycle everything. This sounds sarcastic but it's true. We have no free thought. It is Unfortunetly influenced by media etc. we take what we like from it. Including me.

I agree. I post a bit in style and beauty and there's always women in there asking if what they are wearing is frumpy or whatever as they read on mumsnet that bootleg jeans were out of style now

What are YOUR opinion's, OP?

This sounds like a media studies assignment.

teach kids that adverts lie, models are generally either sick or starved and that it is sheep-like to be influenced by the media.

much work to be done, as witness the women on here who think they look 'ill' or 'wrecked' without make up. Very sad.
