What shoes do you buy for your 13-year-old DS?

Would be interested to know what shoes you routinely buy for your 13-year-old DS (eg school shoes, football boots etc) and what you would regard as an "extra" that would either be a birthday/Christmas present or be paid for out of your DS's birthday money. If the answer is that you give your DS a clothing allowance per month, how much do you give? Does the allowance have to cover absolutely everything (eg school uniform, clothes that are needed rather than just wanted) or are there some things you pay for outside of the allowance?

Interested to hear what others do!

Once mine were teens I gave them their child benefit allowance amount.. but they were then responsible for all their clothes (except for birthdays , Xmas )
I bought school uniform, but casual clothes, cinema trips etc.. had to come from their allowance. They all (except DS2 who is disabled) found weekend jobs at 16 which they added to their money and paid for driving lessons or laptops etc

I think that them having their allowance was really useful as they have learned to budget with a reasonable amount,and two are now at Uni and are managing without going overdrawn as they have had years of practice!

We buy:
1 pair of black leather school shoes.
1 pair of trainers (Sports direct)
1 pair of football boots (Sports direct)
1 pair of rugby boots (actually free from the 'out grown' pile in the club house)
1 pair of cricket spikes
We would have bought 1 pair of tennis shoes but he won them in a tournament

He bought athletics spikes from his birthday money
He bought almost unworn Vans and Converse from the Fara Charity Shop (many thanks to the unknown family whose son is growing fast!)
He bought flip flops from the surf shop in Devon

Thank you for the replies. I'm happy to buy school shoes, trainers and any shoes needed for a sport (eg rugby boots) but my own feeling is that anything beyond that is an extra that has to come as a birthday present etc rather than just getting routinely bought. But it's a long time since I was a teenager, and if it's now the norm for teenage boys to own lots of pairs of shoes, I don't want to be unduly strict and put my son in a position where he is the odd one out. So I'm interested to know what is normal for boys of this age, bearing in mind that any shoes bought are likely to be outgrown within 12 months max!

I would buy school shoes, trainers (and any other sport shoes) and a pair of casual shoes such as converse.

I have just checked this list with DS and he says that's pretty much what all his friends own.

However, he picked that moment to say that he would quite like a pair of those 'elf' (pointy) shoes for school...

I buy whatever they need but if I'm paying then I set the budget. if they just want new football boots, trainers or whatever then they have to spend their own money or have it for birthdays or Christmas. I don't give routine allowance for anything. If they want money they can earn it by doing extra jobs around the house eg I. give d's age 14 £5 for mowing the grass. we do however pay for their mobiles and sports activities.

Shoes? He doesnt wear shoes - trainer only!

Black Pumas for school (though he does have an old pair of Kickers), plus various other airmax, vans and pumas, etc as well as footy boots and astros. His feet grew massively over the last couple of years but he has been a size 10-11 for 6months now!

I should have said we buy his school/footy ones, he buys fashion ones.

Just beware that at 13 he may grow 3 shoe sizes overnight.

As neither of my two - one just turned 14 and the other almost 13 - care about expensive labels and aren't asking for £60 Vans etc then I buy them all. They get branded trainers from a quality perspective but I shop the sales as they take adult size 10 and haven't been able to wear junior sizes since age 8/9 :(

They get school shoes, trainers for PE, crocs or similar for Judo etc, casual trainers and canvas shoes, walking boots and shoes which they need for outdoor activities/scouts. Costs a fortune :(

We buy trainers as "bog standard" shoes.

And flipflops for summer in house use and nurse style slipper/slip on wot nots for winter in house use.

Would normally buy some proper sandally things for the summer, but since it is yet to arrive we are skipping a year with them.

The only "additional extra" has been special footie shoes with.. oh I dunno it was all technical, something about "not quite studs" to play on the yoofclub astroturf.

The shoes day has are:

1 pair black school shoes
1 pair of football boots
2 pairs of trainers - one black, one white
1 pair of black high top converse
1 pair cheap maroon high top pumps from primark
2 pairs canvas pumps from primark - one grey, one blue
1 pair of flip flops
1 pair of wellies for camping

I bought all of these for him. I also buy all his clothes and school uniform as and when needed. If he wants labelled, branded clothes then he gets bought them for birthdays or Christmas or he uses the money he gets from relatives for birthdays/Xmas. I buy decent shoes as they last longer but he has to make do with cheaper clothes as he outgrows them so quickly I refuse to spend £20 on a t-shirt that will last a couple of months maximum!
