DS has always been a small child. Had asthma as a child but now under control. He is very slim and just 165 cms tall. Height is prob not going to be much more as Dad is 169 cms. His voice has broken within the past year. But his skin and face looks like a pre teen. His chest and waist are very slim too. Hardly any stubble. He broke out into spots a year ago and i thought his hormones have kicked in. But it cleared quickly and he stopped growing in height. It is tempting to take him to the GP for some treatment but is it too early. Should we wait until he is 18 at least.

Would have taken him few yrs ago tbh esp if it upsets him. Would def bring him now.

definitely take him now not later.

sorry, that sounds a bit 'definite' just an opinion no medical knowledge.

If his dad is short then I think it's far more likely to be familial than a growth hormone disorder, so the doctor probably won't be able to help.

Did his dad have a growth spurt in his late teens? Growth delay is also hereditary.

Having said that, if it's upsetting him and he hasn't grown at all over the past year, I think you should see a doctor to arrange some blood tests and x rays just to make sure that there isn't a hormone deficiency.

My cousins were like this, as was my uncle, they grew and matured very late, at about 18, but are actually all rather tall and strapping now (like my uncle). Did his dad grow late?

I'd still see the GP though, just to check.

My 17 yo has no facial hair growth at all yet, maybe one or two fluffy hairs but that's all, he is 6'1" and has developed into a young man though. So lack of stubble wouldn't bother me but perhaps check out his late development.

He's over 6 feet tall?

My 16 year old DS is about 5'6 but his dad and I are shorter! However he has a full beard!! And I don't mean fluff or stubble!! He says it's ID!! His older sister -nearly 20-has to produce ID but he never does!! (Not that he's going to all that many places that require it!! But it does make it possible for him to tag along with the 20/30/40 year olds on his hockey team!)
