Daughter passed out after Hpv vaccine - no phone call from school!!

Is this odd? My dd was quite upset and teary as she has never blacked out before and she couldn't believe school didn't ring! Any one else experienced similar?

Dont want to read and run (but have to) - KEEP AN EYE ON HER.
My dd had the most horrific reaction to her first lot - I wouldnt let her have the rest in a million years, but that was flu, barely conscious, hysterical etc.

Girls passing out from injections isnt really that strange, she will be fine!!

I would expect the school to phone me if DD had passed out at school.

Tbf loads of girls pass out (well actually get caught up in the drama and feel faint rather than actually pass out). I bet that's what really happened. They would have been in the care of a nurse. They obviously made a medical judgement that she was fine. So no point in phoning home. What would you have done that a medical professional wouldn't have?

What would you have done if they had rung you?

I co-ordinate the HPV injections at my school. Have done for the last 6 years. I don't think I've ever had a fainter. If I did though, I think I'd probably let the girl phone her mum, just to let her know she was OK.

Yes, she's in the best place with half a dozen nurses dealing with her, but it wouldn't hurt for the school member of staff just to make a quick call.

I now have more information - but I did have to ring around to get it. She blacked out after the jab and as the nurse turned around to get the paperwork my dd fell forward as she fainted. As soon as the nurse saw her she went to pick her up and dd opened her eyes and laughed (that's her worried/nervous response). The nurses looked after her for half an hour and then she went back to class - but her teacher was concerned so sent her back to the nurses. She was very wobbly when she got home - it is a very weird feeling when you black out and it was the first time she had ever done it - I think she was scared and wanted her mum! She was upset that school hadn't rung me. She's fine now but she definitely blacked out and has a bruise on her cheek where she fell.

I think it's quite normal. I fainted at school at 12 after an injection, and my dd fainted after her HPV at school last year. School didn't phone, and I wouldn't have expected them to. I faint fairly easily and see it as quite a trivial thing I suppose. Another of my dds fainted a few weeks ago getting her ears pierced. We're all pretty healthy most of the time.

DH is an injection fainter (in fact he has been known to go into anaphylactic (sp?) shock). DS2 may be following in his footsteps as he passed out cold when he was about 13 and had to have a jab for a school trip. I don't think it's that unusual.

She was ill by the evening she had it... I assume Jo's daughter is ok, sorry I don't come on here every day!

It's not unusual. My daughter said quite a few girls passed out. I would expect the nurse to deal with a simple faint and would not expect her to phone me.

I would expect them to phone. Although it is almost 100% caused by the injection, you don't know that for certain. Also, she's only 12, she would have been scared. The nurse can't have made an accurate judgement without a full assessment.
