Little Gossip

New to Mumsnet and I've joined because I've just come across this horrendous site this week. Way behind the curve I realise but I'm shocked by the abuse levelled anonymously and the fact it's still up and running. I've seen on another that there was an attempt to try and close it down a couple of years ago when it resurfaced then. It looks like it was registered again this year. Anyone know anything?

I thought there are ways to report such sites to the police.
Did you try to do it?

greeneggsandjam · 21/06/2014 22:11

Confused. It sounds like you are calling Mumsnet a horrendous gossip site?

Chocaholicmonster · 22/06/2014 12:38

I, too, am confused & I agree with Green.. it does sound like you're directing this at Mumsnet? Confused

I think she is talking about a site called 'little gossip' but I agree it's not very clear from the op.

i can see the confusion but I'm certainly not calling Mumsnet a horrendous gossip site at all. Apologies if anyone thought so! I was referring to the site called Little Gossip where pupils can post anonymous gossip about other pupils at their schools or colleges. It's meant to be for over 18s but that rule doesn't appear to be strictly enforced. Stuff on their is pretty horrendous and it seems to be a vehicle for cyberbullying. It looks as though there was an attempt by some Mumsnet users to close it down a couple of years ago and I was wondering what the outcome of that was. I looked into reporting it to the police but I think that only works if the site comes under UK jurisdiction. I also looked at making a report to CEOPS ( The Child Exploitataion and Online Protection Centre) and IWF ( Internet Watch Foundation) but as I'm not a victim or a parent of a victim it isn't clear what one can do. I came across it when googling a school. I don't know how old the posts are but there must be some really distressed kids out there having to deal with this stuff.
