Was your DD's first period heavy/normal/light?

As the question asks, how heavy was your daughter's first period? My daughter is 12 and although small for her age, puberty wise I think she's fairly close to starting her periods. I have some panty liners, Lillets day and night and some super ones to cover all eventualities (and can easily get something different if needed), but she'll be going away with the school for ten days soon so trying to work out which ones to send her with (don't want to put four packs in her suitacase!)

My first one was really light, but after that they were really heavy with me having to change every hour, so that why I'm wondering what to send her with.

My dd is 14, started her periods when she was 11 and even now is reluctant to use tampons. Her periods are quite heavy and she still normally only uses pads.

She has used light / regular tampons a few times but only for swimming.

Although her periods are heavy now, the first few we're lighter and only lasted 2-3 days.

I would recommend pads, especially if away when they start.

My first one was not too heavy, but absolute agony for the day leading up to it. I remember being curled up on the sofa convinced I was dying! So I would keep a stack of painkillers and a hot water bottle or similar too.
Also maybe some cheap knickers that she won't be upset at ruining incase there's some accidents to begin with?

My DD (12) has just had her second period and this was heavier than the first. Her first was quite light and no real mess and lasted 2/3 days.

She had a little stomach ache this time around but nothing that paracetamol didn't cure.

Just send spare knickers (that fit snuggly) and day and night-time pads along with tablets just in case.

Both my DDs started like clockwork - around their 12 birthdays, normal flow for us, one every month from then on bang on time.

What were yours like? That might give you a good indicator.

Don't want to worry you and in any case the chances of the first period arriving during those 10 are probably low, but one of my DD's first period was incredibly heavy. She went through every single pair of bottom halves (PJs and trousers) that she owned in two days. I think I recall I had to go out and buy her some leggings so that she had something to wear! She was completely knocked out by it, looked so pale and tired, and I took her to the dr's, where they said that often a first period can be heavy because it has been building up for a long time. That said, she carried on having heavy periods but it's been helped by being on the pill (also for severe acne). But not everyone's going to be like that so don't worry too much!

It happened last week - she is 12 1/2
I would say it was normal. she was really irritable for a couple of days before and looked hot and bothered too. but fine once she had come on. I gave her a few different size pads.
Also told her not to wear pale clothes on bottom half, she was going to go out in v pale denim shorts , it hadn't occurred to her.

I can only say what happened to me as I have 2 boys.
I was 9 (almost 10) and in the half an hour we were travelling in a car I managed to bleed though a pair of knickers, shorts and onto the car seat...

My mum whisked me away to the ladies with a cardigan round my waist to sort me out, while my dad told my brother what had happened....

My youngest, 13 1/2 had her first period in April which was really light, no tummy ache or discomfort. Just had her second one which was the same, long may it continue!
