Boys' prom outfits

I'm scratching my head about my son's school prom in June. His older sisters loved hunting out dresses and accessories. DS would turn up in his pyjama shorts, given the choice. He won't go shopping so I have resolved to find a suit on line. Suggestions anyone?

DS1 got a grey suit from Next and a nice shirt and tie for his prom 2 years ago. It looked lovely but was a fashion suit and not much use for anything else.
DS2 has a black suit bought recently for a special occasion, it will hopefully get plenty of future wear. He is going to wear a dress shirt and bow tie.

Just check whether his partner has a say in colours? At DS school they all have a partner. They don't arrive together or necessarily spend any time together but they do walk down the red carpet for photos.
DS has said his partner wants to choose his shirt / tie to go with her dress .

If he doesn't care, get him something he can wear again. Job interviews and such.

Ds got a grey skinny suit from m&s and jhas worn it for 6th form since as they are required to wear business dress.

We hired a dinner suit from Moss Bros - cost about £50.

At my ds's prom, all the lads had a fairly sober, sensible suit - clearly all the parents were thinking (same as us) it will come in handy for weddings / funerals / interviews/maybe work experience.

Didn't work though, as he's growing so much, he'd outgrown it 6 weeks later.
Glad we only spent £35 in Matalan.

DS we rented a dinner suit , complete with cummerbund for his lower 6th ball .
He we bought a skinny black suit from top man for the leavers do

DS is finally renting a dark grey suit, white shirt, purply pink tie. He tried on a kilt, a tuxedo and about five other suits before finally deciding this was the one. When it was DD's prom she tried on one dress and that was it.

However I am still keeping my eyes open for a reasonably priced suit.

my ds is as tall as my dh, and as broad st the shoulders, so borrowed dh's dinner jacket and dress shirt. However, ds has a tiny waist so I bought smart black trousers from Next and he wore those. He looked very smart. If your dh has a dj, then would this be an option?

Thanks peeps. Am dragging him to next/topshop tomorrow with burger bribe. Thanks for the tip about shirt/tie coordination. A bit of light relief from GCSE revision!

BTW why are DHs so useless in this department? He thought sons should borrow his (only) suit, circa 1998, as he does need one for work! Didn't understand why the rest of us guffawed so much we were rolling round the room.
