Hello, I was wondering if it's normal for my son to be so motivated? He will do anything to get his own way even if that means lying to teachers to enter him for exams! In his sports he is so competitive and has to win or he will be in a extreme mood! He does not care about the feelings of others he has to get his own way and do what he wants. Is this normal?

You're having a larf, aren't you?

Newyearchanger · 28/02/2014 23:10

Thats not motivated that's overly competitive

Floggingmolly · 28/02/2014 23:13

What sort of lies get you entered for an exam you're not eligible for?
I doubt his teachers are that flaming thick.

Shallishanti · 28/02/2014 23:19

I would say that was unusual for a teenage boy
personally I don't think it's very healthy but lots would think it admirable-
is this a stealth boast by any chance?

Well at least he is motivated. It just needs tuning a bit and that will probably come with time.

DD has a few friends like this - very driven and competitive. One of them has "motivated by the fear of being average" as her twitter bio. They go to a specialist school where entry is by audition though - so not typical.

The most competitive one is very caring though.
