dd needs to be revising for her gcse's but she really ill and can't get out of bed

Basically she's in yr 11 and after doing awfully in her mocks, her teachers told her that in order to get good enough grades to get into college she needs to be revising daily already. However since Friday she had had an awful cold with a throat so sore she can't swallow. An ear infection which drops don't seem to be helping as her face is swollen and she can't open up her mouth very wide or swallow without pain. Due to the way her inner ears are from when she was born, ear infections for her are often very painful and take a long time to go away. She isn't eating anything except a bit of tomato soup and she doesn't seem to be getting any better. Surely this illness won't allow the examiners to go easy on her when she sits her gcse's soon as she won't be able to revise for ages, I'm guessing that only if you've had an extended hospital stay? Shall I just give up worrying about her revising and wait until she gets better, however long that may take?

Anyone?

Have you been to the doctors? A few days not revising won' t make any difference.

When you say she won't be able to revise for ages...she might feel better in a couple of day s.

It won't. Gcse's are 10 weeks away so there's plenty of time to revise when she's well. Just focus on her getting well.

As I said, due to the shape of her inner ears and the weakness of them, ear Infections for her usually last up to 2 weeks and are often very painful for her, we have a specialist ent but he's away on holiday so had to go to the gp who prescribed he some drops

Is there anything something the specialist often prescribes? If there is nag you're GP to get the same prescribed or see another GP. Also don't worry too much about the revision, my DD also didn't do too well in her mocks before christmas and is starting her revision tomorrow, however this is only because she has quite a few busy weekends coming up where none will get done stupid football and concerts, i know the majority of her friends haven't even thought about starting yet!!

It won't hurt to have a rest from revision. DS 2 has gone on a skiing trip this week. I'm under no illusion that he will actually read the revision books he dutifully packed.

How is your DD today? The awful sore throat and her level of illness could be glandular fever. Can you see a GP tomorrow...?

OP, revision doesn't just have to be done by sitting down and studying. Can you and your DD think of different ways to get the knowledge in?

One of the things that helped me was writing stuff on postcards and blu-tacking them to the bathroom door. That way I was learning every time I was on the loo.. I did the same thing to the kitchen window, so I learnt when washing the dishes. Sounds stupid, but it really worked.

If she is ill there's no point in trying to get her to focus on big chunks of info. It won't sink in and cause stress which will impede healing.
