Rude teenagers and tactics for dealing

Someone on here recently suggested a tactic for responding to rudeness from a teen. The suggestion was to say ' did you mean to be so rude?' Seemed like a good tactic so I calmly tried it today.
The response ? He looked up from shovelling food in and said 'yes'
Anything else I could try???

How old is he? Either 'you're grounded' or 'where's your rent money' would work best, dependent on age, I guess? Seriously though, I wouldn't accept that response without giving our a serious bollocking!

Ha ha!! I tried "did you mean to ignore me when I asked you to have a shower?" the other day, and got a "yes" back. I didn't know what to say next, so watching this with interest....

Ignore his next request for help/food or whatever, and say you won't help him until he speaks politely?

I would say the same but be serious.
No way do I accept rude behaviour from anyone in my home.

OP, I think they try it on and push boundaries more so at this age than any other time with exception of toddler stage.
I would tell them you didn't accept it then and you don't now.
Then treat them like you would a toddler. Reduce pocket money/allowance. Depending on age you could also shorten their free time, home earlier type of thing.

I really think just ignoring him until he is acting like a functional human is the best tactic. If he ever picks up on this, tell him that your treatment is because he's just not nice to be around when he's being rude.

He's almost 16. He's rude all the time.
He has no allowance as he would spend it on weed.
