AFAIK, it's not harmful in the slightest. Take a multi-vitamin and eat veg, sorted.

NoComet · 06/11/2013 08:14

No fruit is boring

Fruit isn't essential. It's full if sugar for a start

Try veg. Much more nutritious. I hate this idea that fruit is the best form of nutrition. Where did it come from?

Ursula8 · 06/11/2013 09:07

I never eat fruit as it messes with my stomach. I am dangerously healthy. Veggies and multivits the way to go.

LaurieFairyCake · 06/11/2013 09:10

Agree that fruit is unnecessary and veg is massively important

But you can get in some fruit juices/ smoothies if you want

Madmog · 06/11/2013 10:48

I'd say it's more about getting your 5 a day, so if your family can without eating fruit then I wouldn't worry. If it's an issue, perhaps any puddings eaten could contain fruit, ie fruit with icecream, baked apple with custard or crumble if you have time, so you have something with it so reduce the taste of fruit. As mentioned, don't forget fruit juice or smoothies.

No dangers and so long as they're eating a variety of vegies there aren't a whole lot of advantages.

Up until quite recently fruit used to be a real treat for most people, we're not built to be eating it nearly as often as we do nowadays.

Merguez · 06/11/2013 19:58

You shouldn't need multivitamins as a substitute for your 5 a day. But agree with those who says it's fine to eat a variety of vegetables instead.

I try and vary the colours!

My dc will happily scoff an apple while watching TV without even noticing.

eat what is in season. Plenty of veg is fine. Don't take supplements, no-one healthy needs them. Don't mash up good food as smoothies. Don't buy prepacked smoothies, solid sugar.

CAn't see a teen being masively influenced by some 'print-out-able facts' tbh- you'd be better trying to tempt them to try something that might tempt them (Smoothies maybe or cooked fruit in pies or crumbles ??)

Dip strawberries in melted chocolate !
Toffee Apples !
Tropical fruits in meringue cases.

You get the idea.
