Yes. I think some teenagers need to behave horribly and reject their parents, and break the emotional bond they have with you, in order to grow up and become independent. If they don't convince themselves you're awful, they can't break free. It hurts.

It does end though, usually. And they do seem to become decent human beings again, whom you can mostly like, and who like you in return. :)

Just made my DP read this! So very true!

Oh god yes.

The very worst thing, far beyond the drinking, the screaming, the deliberate attempts to destroy our marriage, was the flat stare of utter contempt whenever we were in her field of vision.

And it got better. The hilarious and charming young woman of 17 bears no resemblance to the demonic creature of 2 years ago.

Just one teensy warning: when they take up housework, they get very very arsey if you leave a teabag on the drainer.

Too true, talk about poacher turned gamekeeper. The worse thing is when they tut if you pour yourself a glass of wine?

Orangedays · 05/11/2013 18:14

Well said, not just daughters. Sons too.

ilovegeorgeclooney : Er, not quite. In this house, it's "Ooh, gin o'clock! Can I have one too?"

Sadly mine is a real gym loving puritan, I almost miss the days she ignored me. Last weekend she suggested green tea instead of wine?!? Where have I gone wrong, I am hoping that by 20 she will be more realistic!

Green tea? Green tea?

The body is not a temple. It's an amusement park.
