what would your 14 year old daughter wear if she was going to a casual fun evening with BOYS

Mines at a girls school and they have the odd social evening with the local boys school. It's quite low key, the boys are really nice and the girls enjoy it. Some of the girls dress up to the 9s, thick eye make up, tight dresses etc. Dd1 wore coloured jeans and a t shirt and a bit of make up, she looked lovely but she wants to make 'more of an effort' next time. She's not hugely interested in clothes but I'd like to get her something trendy but not over the top. Any advice welcome

There are lots of interesting/fun shorts around. Worn with opaque or black tights.

I think lacy tops and dresses are still in the shops.

Lots of fab footwear too - glittery shoes/trainers, converse in amazing prints, pretty pumps ....

Mine would probably wear the same as yours, but chocoluvvas suggestions are really good I think. In fact, I'm going to try to direct DD a little towards some of that.

Is she stepping out of her comfort zone as she wants to try something new, or because she wants to fit in/impress a boy?

Cocoluvva's suggestions are good, there is so much to choose from in the high street.

I don't think it's to impress the boys. The boys seem a nice straightforward lot. She knows a few of them through sport and they get on well. I suspect it's to impress the other girls who seem very enamoured of everyone who wears dresses and crazy make up

I think there are a lot of fitted check shirts worn too. The ones DS knows well don't wear much makeup, not the orange effect anyway.

She happily wears mascara, lip gloss and nicks my tinted moisturiser she is a lovely looking girl (I think) although quite outdoorsy and not glamorous. She's very slim and tall. She's a bit spotty and hates her braces but neither thing is really bad

For a party/gathering type thing, D(Y10) would probably wear a body-con dress opaque tights and creepers. Or a short floaty one.

For a meet up in the park, leggings/jeans/shorts and a crop-top/huge sweatshirt.

She wears mascara and a bit of eyeliner. Orange make-up is not fashionable here in London, thank God!

She has a body con tube skirt (ie belt ) from h&m, what top.. Topshop have some cool sweatshirts, wonder if they would be ok

My dd would be in jeans and a hoodie and her converse. No make up.

Colored jeans and a lacy jumper or various long tunic tops or a skater dress and leggings. Gold pumps or long drown leather boots dependent on weather. Short, but not stupidly so denim skirt in Sumner.

messy bun an a bit of make up, not a lot and quite probably no foundation or eyeliner.

She's fairly tall, curvy size 12, she looks grown up without trying to.

I don't think she'd wear her tightest tunic to meet boys (at least I hope she wouldn't).

DD1 aged 15 has friends who are girls and boys. Wears the same style regardless of party, meeting for shopping, Starbucks or park. T-shirt (tie-dye look), plain or slogan. Skinny jeans or shorts over black opaque tights never skirts or a dress . Converse or vans. Hoodie, jumper. Just bought a parka with a very furry hood.

No way prissy I have a lazy arse teen like most . Read my post again. DD1 wears tie-dye look. She buys them already looking that way from boohoo and such like. They're in fashion, don't ya know

If it was an evening disco/meal out type event, my DD2 (15) would wear a lace dress, or a skater skirt plus lace crop top, or a tube belt skirt (we have the H&M ones too!) and a loose fitting vest tucked in with big heels, hair down and lots of eyeliner/mascara. DD3 (13) would wear similar things but probably with ballet flats as opposed to heels.

For a more casual daytime look it would be skinny jeans, coloured jeans or cut off denim shorts with checked shirts, vest and long cardigan, off the shoulder oversized jumpers or a hoodie. Hair down and lots of eyeliner/mascara as before.
