She is 16 and she is wearing a red strapless number from monsoon, black wedges that she can hardly walk in because she is not used to heels; a monsoon wrap (silver & black) that I wore when I got married and some earings and a necklace from monsoon (Mmmm... bit of an advert for monsoon here )

It's an odd evening.
When my Mum was dying dd got very upset because my Mum wouldn't see this day so I knew tonight would be difficult

In that case my ds2's leavers' ball is the equivalent. Maybe proms haven't come ooop north yet!

my ds has his on thurs. i know . i feel old. and skint !

ds has his do in a couple of weeks. He has hired a suit and is sharing a stretch limo. I have paid for the suit but not the limo. At least I don't think I have, there may be an IOU ....

ds1, 4 years older and always a different kettle of fish, went in a borrowed suit and a beaten up old landrover.

I feel, and am, bloody ancient. I wish I had had kids younger.

luckily we got given a suit. and ds gf parents own taxi firm and are "sorting" the cost of the limo - whatever that means
thank fuck just spent £320 on my clutch and it was a bit of a worry.

still need to get it dry cleaned and buy him a shirt. oy vey.

i'm truly saddened to see the American tradition of 'prom' has made it over here.

They always print a pageful of colour pictures from each school's prom in our local paper and they all look so lovely and so old!

went for a simple diamante necklace - no coloured stones, bracelet and earrings.

she was so chuffed she showed her whole family!

So........how did it go then? Did she have a fab time? DS1 had his just before the GCSEs began and it made me feel very proud seeing him and his mates all looking gorgeous in their tuxes but also very aware of the passage of time as in "seems like 5 mins ago I was changing his nappy". I'm pleased to say I managed not to say this to him in front of anyone thus avoiding horrendous embarrassment for him!

A few girls from one of the schools here arrived in a helicopter

the one upmanship is bizarre. my ds has a friend arriving on a donkey - that will put the helicopters to shame!
