Oh that was funny - I just accidentally clicked on "what to do with a 6-mth-old" which was next thread up from this on active conversations and they were talking about bumbos!!! I was confused!

mo3t, DD2 is sharing a house in Manc this year too - obv not with your DS! - hers is in Withington, opp the girls' high school, that will be interesting for the lads in her house. Where is his?

The first one to go is the one that makes you buy loads of stuff, take the whole family to drop off and weep as you drive away. It's fairly old hat after that!

JanH - No wonder you had a shock ! You sound v exp in this whole "off to Uni" business. DS1 house is in Fallowfield, near to his halls last yr (Woolton Hall)- handily close for Owens Park food halls etc! Is your DD going into yr2?

rustybear · 31/08/2006 21:32

OK mumofthreehere

PretendFriend · 31/08/2006 21:36

Oh yes, DD2 looked at Fallowfield halls last year, mo3t - liked it down there but went for one of the city centre ones instead. She loves Withington so far though (she has been working at Ticketmaster in Manc all summer - she's very hard up )

DD1 went to uni in Leeds in 2001 and left in 2004 so we got the hang of the toing and froing with her; and DD2 is 21 now, she shared a house with friends and then her boyfriend for 2 years after leaving school so her going to uni was just another step on. She is about to start her 2nd year doing Social Work, what is your DS doing? (Would be funny if they knew each other, I know it's a big place but it's also a small world!)

(That was me btw )

mumof3teens · 31/08/2006 21:48

Hi PretendFriend - Yes it's a small world. DS1 is studying Medicine, so is only definitely based in MCR this year, as he will be based in a hospital after that. He has put Wythenshawe Hosp as first choice, but isn't guaranteed it, so may end up in fourth choice - MRI! He has a few friends at Leeds, who also seem to be having a great time. The travelling from where we live (near Derby) is about the same to MCR and Leeds (where he also had an offer).

I'm with BamboozlesLover ... I don't think I was that bad to my parents as a teenager (other than the daughter at 14 thing - but my parents were absolutely brilliant. I'm sure everyone thinks their parents are great just we're not that good at showing it & I think we only really start to appreciate everything they've done for us when we're a bit older.

I also agree about all teenagers appearing to think their friends parents are cooler etc. My potential in-laws just seemed really cool, but I think part of it is down to the fact that they don't tell you off, tell you to earn money etc etc! I think with friends you don't always see the bad parts of their parents!

I also apologise for gatecrashing - in my defenese I feel like a teenager still (although haven't been for 3 years) & my 7 yr old DD acts like a 17 yr old sometimes! (Hopefully she's getting the teenageryness out of her system early).
