do you think a 17 year old should be allowed to go to the toilet at school without asking as a 17 year is an adult and should be allowed to go of there own free will

No, as it disrupts lessons. Just as, if I were in a conference, I would ask the conference leader's permission before I left the room for whatever reason.

Unless in an extreme emergency, a 17 yr-old should not be leaving lessons to go to the loo anyway.

If they want to be "treated as adults" they should bear in mind that the teachers are not/cannot be just tripping out to the loo every 5 mins.

A 17 year old should be perfectly capable of going before the lesson, or waiting. I'm a teacher and sometimes have to cope for three hours with no time for a loo break. I can't just walk out.

Agree with present posters. At 17 why can't you hold it an hour and go before/after?

I agree with all the others that say at that age ( barring a medical problem) they can wait until the end of the lesson . From a teachers POV if the students are just getting up and walking out whenever they fancy how do they know whether they are off to the loo or just leaving in general .

Most adults would have to wait until a break to use the loo at work. Being an adult isn't just about doing what doing whatever you want.

yes a 17yr old should be treated as an adult. go to the toilet in scheduled breaks like adults.

they are 17 not 7!

My 17 year old is working full time at the moment. She is only allowed to go to the toilet in her breaks, unless it is absolutely urgent, and then she has to inform someone and get her position covered.
That's how it is when you are an adult.

If the OP thinks it's ok to miss parts of lessons then she should make sure she already knows whatever's being taught!

Leah, what's up? Have you had a really bad week at school and now found your parents/carers are agreeing with the teachers?

leah, in all your posts you demonstrate that you have no idea what it is actually like being an adult- and this may be why your family struggle to treat you like one

adults do not get to go to the loo whenever they feel like it at work

adults are usually terrified of losing their jobs and will not take days off for minor medical problems: they will go to the doctor asap in their leisure time to get it sorted so they won't have to be off work

I'm confused as to what you are after Leah.
From what I gather you've had poor attendance in year 11, and have been told you will have to re-take the year.

You appear frustrated that you are being treated like a child, And that you won't be treated like a 17-18yo 6th former.

However at 17 you will not be an adult. And your numerous threads indicate you are not as mature as you would like to believe you are.

Perhaps you could take advantage of the 2nd chance that your school has given you; and work your butt off to get the grades you need.

Adulthood isn't freedom, honestly a 16-17 year old has more freedom than many adults!
