BPD in teens

Does anyone know of a thread on here about this. I've seen one in the adult section, but would rather read from parents who have/are going through this. DD just diagnosed at 16.

I've not been involved in any of her hospital appointments as she chose to seek help without me.

Feeling rather helpless here :-(

I know someone who works for the university who said that 25% of new students are diagnosed with bipolar.

If this is true they are dealing our this diagnoses like smarties. Really don't know what is going on because I never believe that really 25% of young people have bipolar.

BPD is Borderline Personality Disorder isnt it?

There are threads from adults in Mental Health about this. Not that many, but there is currently a support thread going. Soem of them might have experience of BPD with teens. I thik one or two of them had it in their teens if I remember correctly.

Hi - is the diagnosis Borderline Personality Disorder or Bipolar Disorder? I know bit about the former as have a sister with it, but won't say any more now, in case it's Bipolar.

It's the former.

they can do a confidential phone consultation with you if you would like something like that

Have they described it as emerging BPD? I ask as due to the nature of the teenage brain/emotional development, some psychiatrists will wait til 18 or older to give this diagnosis. Either way, she may be offered therapy (DBT) by CAMHS which can help her deaL with her feelings and be less impulsive. They might also offer some family therapy.

Thanks, yes counselling in pipeline via CAMHS. Will look a young minds again. Contacted them once before. I don't know what it's diagnosed as because dd has been to all the appointments on her own so I only know what she tells me. Awful situation.
